The long and short of it - accidents happen. Nobody wants to crash into a door, and nobody wants their door crashed into. Both parties need to be cautious, right? Why does it have to be so political? i almost replied to the previous comment that this is my biggest fear as both a driver and a cyclist. I used to bike every day last year before i started a new job just out of the city that requires driving. i think it helps to be able to see both sides - doesn't make it any less dangerous.

In Chicago, "Dooring" (opening your car door in front of a biker and essentially mimicking a brick wall) is punishable by a fine of $1,000. I have seen some people get pretty messed up like this in the news.
