Never mind, I found it. It's a surprisingly meditative thinkpiece on the life of a French peasant during the reign of the Sun King. I only vomited twice and called emergency services once.

That’d have to be some pretty strong comments. I mean, The F150 has seriously been going out of its way to be awful for decades yet it’s still America’s biggest selling vehicle!

The closest comparison I can think of to that is Papa John’s, where the CEO did lose his job but he wasn’t sued and they were still able to sell pizzas.

There’s also the difference (as JRR Tolkien wrote) between allegory and applicability. Allegory is put there directly by the writer, and applicibility is found by the reader with or without the author’s intent. For example, Orwell’s “Animal Farm” is an allegory for the Soviet Union and how an idealistic idea turned

I just finished watching it. I will say this was pretty good, and the director was true to his word that this was pretty much it’s own animal. It has its flaws, but it’s forgivable. It is a very elaborate twisted faustian deal movie. And like all faustian deals, the first rule when dealing with the devil: don’t.

Yeah nothing wrong with deeper themes and I like the deeper ideas in both of the first two. As I said further or into the comments it's the prevalence of some of them currently and wanting more filth and sex cus they are very very much part of the themes.

I wouldn’t be mad at it if they continued making them but took the approach of the first bunch of comics and made them disconnected stories instead of direct story continuations.

I will 100% agree with you on this score. It IS frustrating when a filmmaker, especially one who is only just now dabbling in horror, tries to substitute storytelling craft with thematic resonance. But I don’t think horror is the only victim of that mentality. This is pretentious artiste types all over. It just seems

Right!? Julia didn't murder dudes for Frank because she was a horrible psycho. She was a beautiful, sensual woman trapped in a marriage to a milquetoast American whose rough trade brother had opened her eyes to the banality of her existence. Like sure, there's a skinned dude and lots of hooks in flesh. But it's a

I’ve been kinda bored of it since Dave Made A Maze and I don’t even count that as horror, certainly not “elevated horror” which seems unnecessarily snobby to me so I’m thankful you put it in quotes. Hereditary and A Dark Song are fucking brilliant, I have little issue with the subtext itself moreso it’s prevalence. I

Damnit, and everything had been going so well for this plucky little flick!

Geez, spoilers maybe? So the movie's been out for 47 years, well, I've been busy!

That is exactly what I thought. That opening scene really shook and disturbed me in a way it never had before when I saw it in IMAX yesterday.

Definitely agree there, but there’s still a huge difference between a Pitchfork-style “what I did on my summer vacation” in lieu of a real review which is merely unhelpful vs. borderline slander because you have some sort of a personal conspiracy theory about a person involved in the project.

Calling the puppet characters who weren’t an obvious Earth animal “monsters” was an absolute stroke of genius

It’s about time a movie featured cleavage.

Wait ‘til they reveal their $120 ads only subscription tier.

I just skip right to the comments.

I very much enjoyed having to guess why the hell Brad Pitt was commenting on this.

Considering how antagonistic we are toward the writers, editors, and executives, I’m just amazed it didn’t happen sooner. But I think it’d be great if it all just turned into a long-term game of comradely snarking.
