scifi doesn’t mean it needs to explain everything” never said it did, but you go right ahead and beat up that poor straw man.

There’s two ways to go about it- you either make a wall of noise so they can’t hear you moving around (tough to hear footsteps over 110 dB of music playing, you know?) or you make noise where you want the aliens to be and lure them into a trap where you can kill them at your leisure.

Either way, the idea that everyone

What are the chances this film explains why no one, most of all the US military, doesn’t figure out that if you’re facing creatures that hunt by sound, the answer isn’t to be quiet, but to make an absolute shit-ton of noise, all the time, everywhere?  You’d think people that walk around in camouflage all the time

Being annoyingly rich already isn’t really an excuse to get exploited. Sure, it’s easier for them to walk away, but that doesn’t make being treated badly ok.

Imagine that, an employer who makes a shit ton of money off the backs of his employees doesn’t like the idea of them gaining more leverage and protections.

Nah.  The first 15 minutes shows you exactly what the next 2 hours and 15 are going to be like: artificially drawn out “suspense” before revealing exactly what you know is already coming.  YMMV, obviously, and I have friends that found that dreadful (in a good way, this is horror, after all), but it didn’t work for me.

They lost a bunch of the big names from the original group, the new characters aren’t as interesting and (most importantly) the writing hasn’t been up to snuff. It’s not rocket science.

In what strange world do you live that Doctor Who even vaguely resembles “pure” sci-fi?  They literally explain things on this show with the term “timey-wimey”.

Serious question, because, as I said to Unspeakable Above, I am not at all a fan of these films:  What is it that you get out of them?

At some point it stops feeling like any kind of art (even trashy art) and becomes edgelord-courting torture/gore porn, and I just don’t enjoy it OR respect it”

That’s exactly the problem I have with these movies too. There’s no viewpoint being espoused in the Terrifier films, not thoughts or insight, just mindless

It’s not the gore that’s offensive, it’s that the movie is so abysmally written.  Both movies, actually.

Agreed, but I don’t know how you market this movie without it. If you try and hold back the twist, you make the movie seem like its a totally non-supernatural crime thriller, which attracts a largely different audience than the horror “comedy” crowd they were aiming for with this script.  (Comedy in quotes because I

YMMV, I suppose, but I get no satisfaction out of spending two hours with stupid people (give or take Coen Bros. movies).

If you’re going to make your characters dumb intentionally, they have to be phenomenally dumb, and it has to be across the board (again, see the Coen Brothers— Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art

It wasn’t the plotting in Abigail, it was the characters. They were all dumb as rocks.

I liked Late Night a lot, but thought Immaculate was pretty by the numbers.

I don’t think you have to have a thorough understanding of English law to have a working understanding of how lawyers work- and the latter would suggest that it doesn’t really matter what they think is or isn’t true, it matters what they’re willing to defend in court.

Eh.  Star Wars has had the shit kicked out of it pretty well by Disney the last ten years, so they’re a little more subdued than they used to be.  They’re still up there, but I don’t know if they’re as far atop the hill as they once were.

Sounds virtually identical to “debates” about Marvel vs DC, or Star Wars, or any other rabid fandom. Do we call all those guys (because they’re all guys) “mentally ill?”

Sounds like the pop music version of Marvel Bros, DC-stans, Snyderheads, etc...

Thanks for the clarification, and for the backup.
