I actually really like Great Expectations (ever since reading it cover to cover in one weekend in 6th grade), and I have seen probably every adaptation. However, I’m not so sure about one where Pip dies by suicide. That may be stretching the source material a bit far.
And a very naked Gwyneth Paltrow, and directed by Alfonso Cuaron. It’s a very good movie all around.
Agreed. There are a lot of great songs on this list, but Just Can’t Get Enough is an almost perfectly constructed song. It’s impossible to be still during that song.
Prometheus was doing OK. Kinda gooey, pretty scary, some really good body horror .... and then someone got killed by a rolling ship.
Me (discussing Alien Covenant with my young-adult daughter): The problem is she let the wrong Michael Fassbender back on the ship.
It is pretty interesting. Why would Smith have more pull than those other artists (I mean, he does with me, but still)? Were they not trying as hard as they claim to be? Does Ticketmaster feel it’s in an unusually precarious position because of the string of recent fuck-ups? It’s also possible that even Ticketmaster…
Take your kids to see The Cure. Worked for me.
Update: I know the resellers are listing tickets that they have not even bought yet.
Even many of the smaller venues in my city are now run by a centralized promotion company. I think it’s just really hard to operate completely independently.
I total screwed up and forgot to register as a verified fan in time. Resellers are already trying to sell $20 face value tickets for $115, plus another $40 in Ticketmaster fees. Premium tickets are being listed at ludicrous prices. I fucking hate scalpers. It used to be that at least they had to go to the box office,…
Yes, this. The film must has the majority of dialogue in a language other than English. Until 2020 is was called best foreign language film.
Looks better than the similarly themed Private Lessons.
This reminds me of the first short story Garrison Keillor published, “Local Family Keeps Son Happy”. Here is the synopsis from the New Yorker website:
My guess is there will be less sex in this than the premise leads us to believe, and possibly no sex between the central couple. The big “twist” is that she is the one who does some growing up. (He already seems absolutely lovely, especially considering how awful his parents appear to be.)
Polar Express is truly awful.
I would agree with that, a fine mess.
Of for goodness sake, Dune is fine.
Interestingly, one of the effects that works least well in LOtR is a practical one. In some of the long shots in the mountains they clearly had kids standing in for the hobbits. Great idea, but it was easy to tell they were kids. Kids just move differently than adults. (Not a knock on a terrific trilogy, just a…
And yet I keep coming back. Old habits die hard and I have nowhere else to go. (:
