Perhaps she means white folk in general, which is fair.

Let’s see, there’s Sin City and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and a whole bunch of other stuff in between.

This 55 year old fully agree with you.

Presumably it’s fairly recent. She looks like a women in her 50s, many of whom would be happy to look like that in a photo. I agree it’s not a glamour shot and does not look at though it’s been digitally altered, but it’s not terrible.

“A killer with the manners of a rabbit” Yeah, that fits.

Top Gun: Maverick only deserves to be on a best-of list if it’s “best recent movie sequels that I watched on a 16 direct flight to Seoul”, or perhaps “best movie with a colon in the title that I watched on that flight”. It was better than Jurassic World: Dominion and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, but

Worth it for Sox alone! I am right now cuddling my talking Sox plush, which my daughter bought for me and lives on my work desk. (She is 20, I am 55, so both grown-ass adults.)

“Comfort and Joy” (1984) directed by Bill Forsyth (Local Hero, Gregory’s Girl). I give this movie my highest possible recommendation if you are a grown up and like funny as heck, very bizarre, under-seen Scottish films. I promise you have not seen anything like this movie.

Branagh must be kicking himself. This is much more fun than just redoing Christie. At least there is some possibility of being surprised without being accused of changing the source material (because there is none).

Spoilers:

I am now going to investigate this show rather than going to see Avatar 2 (which in truth I was unlikely to see anyway). That clip is hilarious. Thank you good buddy.

I’m not betting against Cameron in terms of commercial success. He knows how to make a commercially successful film, and this is an admirable skill. His neediness in terms of desiring respect for his artistry is nauseating. Good lord this man is needy. Just take our money and be happy.

I also very much hope this happens, and it would be well deserved. Enter Avatar in the animated category, where I also suspect it is not worthy of winning (been a good year for animation).

I had no idea this film existed until right now. I vaguely remember seeing some banner ads which I assumed were for a video game, not a movie.

In the Universe of the book/movie, they do.

Are you saying it’s inappropriate to comment about the format of a piece in the comments section for that piece?

There are a lot of long time commenters (and newcomers) on this site whose posts are thoughtful. And honestly, I have no way of knowing whether or not they are failures IRL. I try not to judge people solely based on their taste in pop culture. That’s how-to-avoid-being-a-hipster-d-bag 101. And yes, I realize I am

I assume “engagement” just means comments. I understand I’m old, and old fashioned. I miss the AVClub that was. I’ve been a daily reader since before the AVClub split from The Onion. :(

Sweet Odin! How many pieces on the site right now are rankings? I saw three after a quick glance, but I probably missed a few. Enough with the rankings already.

That policeman seems really nice.
