Yes. That’s how you know the system is not actually meant to increase the birthrate. One more thing from the book: a lot of babies are put to death for what may be minor imperfections (we can’t be sure what’s wrong with them). This is not a system that actually supports or promotes life.

There’s no way the birth rate is actually rising in Gilead, because their system is not an effective way of increasing the birthrate. It’s not meant to increase the birthrate. It’s meant to control the populace, mostly the women but also men who are not in positions of power (many of whom are sent to die in endless

Heh, remember when we learned that Marx is actually a badass in real life? I feel like the only reason he does not now have a career as an action star is that he’s afraid it would blow his cover.

I read Ishiguro’s “Klara and the Sun”. Another work of quiet, devastating genius. Seriously. I also did the Murph workout at CrossFit, and I was fine. Then I read this book, and I can’t fucking move.

I honestly don’t think Stewart has ever been better, and he was pretty damn good in a lot of things. The movie is so good it will make you reinterpret your understanding of the 50s.

Like for “I’m writing more than the movie deserves.”

I suppose the most damning thing I can say about it is it’s not a movie that merits all that much discussion, either positive or negative.

From a viewer standpoint, I felt like if the characters did not realize he was there to betray them, it would make them look like complete idiots (and they were already skating very close to that line). I found the movie very predictable, but not in a way that annoyed me too terribly. Comfortably predictable? It was

Well, if they didn’t start talking about, you would wonder why, because the viewer knows the minute he joins that he’s just there to betray the team.

Well, you’re not going to know that until you watch it. Also, that’s an unfair comparison, because Zombieland is better than many, many movies, not just other zombie movies. Not everything can be Zombieland. It’s a high bar.

True. Using it to cut through a wall was a bit of a let down.

I enjoyed it. Not as much as his Dawn of the Dead, but enough that I did not consider my Friday evening sitting at home on my own damn couch having spent no extra money wasted.

I hope you enjoy the book! I felt very satisfied with how the story was wrapped up.

I seem to have much less attachment to 101 Dalmatians than most people. The fact that the (wholly fictitious) villain in that movie wanted to kill puppies to make a fur coat (you know, the way people actually kill cute animals like foxes to make fur coats) does not make me at all disinclined to watch her origin story

Hard to say since so few people actually do that. They try to explain away and make excuses. People seem perfectly capable at cringing at their now out-of-date hairstyles and clothes (a mullet and acid washed jeans, what the hell was I thinking), but not at their out of date jokes.

I freakin’ cried at Digimon, as a grown-ass adult. Granted, a lot of things make me cry, and the older I get, the more thing make me cry, but still. (For the record, I also cried at Detective Pikachu.)

It exists to the extent that it has always existed. People have always spoken out against things that offend them and sought to have the cancelled. A great example would be the Betty White Show from the 50s, canceled in part because she had a black actor as a regular cast member. The only difference now is that a new

So excited to finish American Gods season 3, and wait ... what the ever loving fuck just happened? Do not tell me that is the last god damn episode of the series. Who do I get to slap the shit out of for ending a series that way?

I do in fact have one very small horse, but she is not for sale and you wouldn’t want her if she was.

I’m thinking back to when my daughter asked if she should read it. I told her under no circumstances should she read it. Ever. When she asked why I gave her an outline of the story, and she was she was, like, why the fuck would you write a story like that?
