White supremacist propaganda vs. people opposed to it = “dumb culture war”
White supremacist propaganda vs. people opposed to it = “dumb culture war”
This is my problem with all the backlash-to-woke whining you see so often these days. It’s not like good points don’t get made, and I’ve got enough problems with woke Twitter myself, but most of the time it masks a much deeper feeling of entitlement which just seems like the result of being too rich and too famous for…
I always wonder how these people square their worldview with the fact that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has run 15 years and counting.
Counterpoint: this douchey show sucked and his using the term PC invalidates his opinion
Beautiful
Leave it to Ray Fisher to make this all about him. Does he think his situation is even remotely in the same ball park as what happened to George Floyd?
And nobody’s calling him out that he thinks his gripes about his inconsequential role in a movie compares to someone actually dying?
Is it me or does Ray Fisher strike you as someone who was done wrong but is also kind of an asshole? See: Rose McGowan.
I don’t think I’ve ever gone from uninterested to hype so quickly before. This looks really fantastic.
Tape?
I fucking hated Avatar at the time, so it’s a testament to the excellent writing in this column that I actually kinda want to rewatch it now.
This feels like a best-case scenario, right? “Hey, I didn’t realize the harm I was causing, but now I do and I’m genuinely sorry. I’m hoping we can all learn from my mistake and do better because it’s important.”
Yes, I'm extremely happy you did Hughes's work for him.
The Prestige might be my favourite film, let alone Nolan film, but at this point it’s reached Jackie Brown levels of being always described as ‘overlooked/underrated/might actually their best work’ despite most people agreeing.
I just want to take the time to mention this little quote from the Hollywood Reporter article covering this (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/ava-duvernays-new-gods-james-wans-the-trench-dc-movies-not-moving-forward-at-warner-bros):
That doesn’t really track. A Wrinkle in Time came out March 2018; a week after it came out (when it was already tracking to do poorly), they announced DuVernay was directing New Gods. A year later, they announced King was writing it. For “because AWIT tanked” to be the reason they’re pulling it now, 3 years later,…
THE AV CLUB
They are all proxy-terms to hide the conspiracy theorist’s antisemitism. Listen to them blathering long enough, and the mask slips and you see that’s the root. Nothing new under the sun.
MODOK is a top 5 favorite Marvel character for me. Patton Oswalt is perfect casting. I always say that I want more silly light-hearted superhero stuff. I should be squarely in the target audience for this.
Agreed that he took this step when he had nothing to risk by just letting the moment pass, but I did find his comment about “cancel culture” vs what he was doing as unnecessary. Bringing that to the conversation is an open wink, wink to exactly those who would argue he has nothing to apologize for.
