I feel like that’s how I remember the majority of books I’ve read. It’ll be a few main characters, a memorably plot point, but mostly just a general feeling that the book gave me.

I enjoyed it, but thought they made a tactical narrative error. If the premise of power is belief - or your story being told - bringing in Hindu gods as an example of the forgotten old gods doesn’t really work. That waitress should have the endorsement of 1/5th of the world’s population and the privilege that implies.

In the book there are more. There are “The Spooks”, gods who look like the Men in Black and represent conspiracy theories and “The Intangibles” who represent the powers that control the stock markets.

I likes the reference to Anansai’s son who is the protagonist to the spinoff book Anansai Boys.

I really don’t understand why we’re still hedging so hard on this.  The cops have the check he paid the brothers with.  This is not the hill anyone should be dying on.

Plus, Kelly’s motivation is clearly power and torture (and whatever else) rather than lust. Libido-killing shots doesn’t cure an abuser, especially not one running a god damned sex cult.

When I read that, I was like “that’s it? That’s how you assuage your guilty conscience for getting this guy off for raping a child, and making a lot of money for doing it?”

The thing I think about is: What if two people were charged with Jussie’s “attack”? He would likely have sat back and let the lives of two people be irrevocably changed for something that didn’t happen. All for what? More money? Better storylines? A profile raise?

I’ll admit, up front, that I take this one pretty personally. My family has spent the last two years trying to recover from an actual violent hate crime, which my husband barely (and I mean barely) survived. It still affects him, mentally and physically, on a daily basis. There are still more surgeries left ahead of us…

With all he put in to this, I sure hope Jussie Smollett gets that raise.
