What astonishes me is that problems arising from aluminum coming into contact with stainless steel on boats has been a known problem for decades, if not a hundreds years. Galvanic corrosion is a known concept in hull design and ship building.

I think the picture of the ThinkPad X201s doesn't do it justice. Although not standard (for the X2xx), the X Series have had the possibility, and for a little while now, to carry both the legendary TrackPoint and a touchpad, like their bigger brothers the T Series.
