Most new STI drivers I see in Toronto anyway are white males in their late 40s and early 50s who look “professional” and some East Asian males 40s/50s as well who look the same. There’s certainly the brodouche contingent but they tend to drive the older Subarus and are still a minority

If you’re in the market, go for the STI. You won’t regret it. I’d suggest going for an exhaust as well - I got the Subaru Performance exhaust which is a catback and it totally opens up the character of the car

no the Golf R isn’t “infinitely nicer” - its nicer for sure, but the current STI is no penalty box. It has heated leather Recaros, Apple Carplay, navigation, that cross traffic thing that beeps at you when a car goes past, and is very characterful to drive compared to the R. “leagues faster” - mate what are you talking about? Further, the Golf R is BORING compared to the STI (real talk, the R is a great car, but its not an STI)

The Golf R has a great interior but its just not close to the STI in terms of character. The Golf R is a glorified shopping trolley, the STI has hints of performance greatness

300 hp is still decent from a turbo H4. The Golf R doesn’t even make that! 

Its better to drive than the Golf R and still nicer inside than a Focus RS (albeit not as sharp a steer)

The STI is waaaay better to drive than the Golf R and has more power. The 2004 STI had 305 hp, admittedly it still has the same amount, but thats because the 2004 STI had more power than its competitors, who are just now catching up.
