At the risk of showing my age, that has to be my biggest complaint about modern comics. You got more story (action, character development, what-have-you) in a single issue of a silver age comic than you get in an entire arch of a modern comic. Now get off my lawn.
Avengers Forever is terrific - cleans up so much of the bad writing and nonsensical character actions that piled up over the years. Of course it cleaned it up by blaming it all on Immortus - but that the point of a character like Immortus.
