I’m actually starting with The Affirmation, but I’ve seen the movie version of The Prestige and that definitely fits too.

Any story that’s presented as a kind of “puzzle” where you don’t know what’s really going on unless you pay attention to textual clues. Infinite Jest...The Book of the New Sun...Wind-Up Bird Chronicle....Dhalgren, maybe? Also I’m currently reading some Christopher Priest, who definitely seems to fit into this category.
I loved this show, but I actually like the ending unresolved. It was kind of poetic, with that final shot of Eli heading off into the great void.
Dwayne Johnson playing the Wolfman is the first interesting thing I’ve heard about the Dark Universe.
I imagine he might skip the razor and just rip the beard out with his hands.
Oof...no spoilers, but you might want to get ready for a little disappointment in Season 2. There is a stretch of episodes that go way off the rails. Apparently the network execs forced Lynch to make some ill-advised changes. It gets good again in the second half of the season.
Does this really qualify as a “fourth wall break”? I don’t recall the characters speaking to the audience or acknowledging the movie’s fiction in any way. The Lego part was revealed to be fiction, but that doesn’t break the fourth wall.
Every time I see a shot of Hela, I think it’s news about a new Underworld movie.
It’s going to take some effort to watch this without hearing Kaos from Skylanders.
I love Dune as much as the next guy, but I wish they’d try adapting some Neal Stephenson or China Mieville rather than yet another Dune adaptation.
The young lady on the Martians Abroad cover has very...odd...legs.
Yeah, it seems like breaking the surface tension would require a lot of movement — I don’t think she’d be able to just pop her head out like she does. She’d have to shake it off.
It actually has more bathrooms than bedrooms. That’s odd.
I may have misread something, but I seem to recall this is kind of what they’re doing? Not a different town, but that there are all new main characters and the cast from season one will not be as center-stage.
I love Dune as much as the next guy, but if they’re going to drop truckloads of money on an epic adaptation, I’d rather see something that hasn’t been tried before. Maybe China Mieville’s Bas-Lag books, off the top of my head.
Isn’t that still math? You’re suggesting that they discuss it in a different way, but the THING they’re discussing is the same. I’m actually reading a novel right now that deals with this theme, but I don’t want to say the name of it because it would be kind of a spoiler.
When the Tick slams the suitcase on the table, Arthur’s facial expression is the precise expression I get when my 4-year old is having a tantrum. Which is brilliant.
So, looking at the caption on the Fury Road image — does he mean he is actually transferring the films to VHS for real? Because that adds a whole extra layer of awesome to this.
Is Spidey adjusting his junk in that photo? Maybe the spidey-suit doesn’t quite accommodate him?
I think the self-driving car is going to die as soon as people realize they have no choice but to travel within the speed limit.
