I drove a 911S with the power pack recently (7 speed manual), and it fucking takes off like a bat out of hell. I don't care what anyone says about it, that chassis is a force to be reckoned with and I doubt the others nailed it quite so well.

Because that engine was only mated to automatics, and it makes it easier to swap the ecu and whatnot into it, plus the car was already an automatic, and it would increase his cost substantially to fit everything necessary for a manual.

I can fix damn near anything, so I buy used and fix whatever I need. Additional registration + insurance, complete loss of $10k+, taxes and dealer fees, etc. just aren't worth it to me.
