For how tight Metroid games normally are, and for how bloated and empty open world games usually are, this sounds like a terrible idea to me.

I’m with you. It’s a very ambitious game that fails to succeed at much of what it tries to do, often to the detriment of what it does well. It starts off strong and quickly feels tedious and repetitive with unimportant characters and a boring story.

Kinda sounded like everyone recorded their parts without hands-on direction. Like they were each told to record their parts on their own then they submitted a bunch of takes after the fact.
It makes your console usable again so yes, it is a fix. And all your saves are cloud-side anyway so you’re not losing much.

Quake multiplayer was never an afterthought, that is insane to think that. The thing that came after, which I can only imagine is what you’re getting confused by, is online play by way of QuakeWorld. Prior to that it was expected that people were only playing on LANs or college networks.
Right, they really wanted the player to be constantly switching weapons to hit the weak points and also using the chainsaw whenever they got the chance. It’s also probably why they explicitly show you the weak point of each enemy as soon as you meet them instead of letting you discover the weak points for yourself…
