Dark Souls 1 on PC is a little broken right now. This is contributing to your experience of not seeing much online activity. I’d say it’s worth skipping the game for now until the multiplayer is fixed. Jumping straight to Dark Souls 3 will be fine.

Not a chance. The XBox One is still selling well, just not as well as the PS4 which is doing insane numbers. They’re selling to more of their market (PC) but this does not mean they’re interested in abandoning the millions of people who buy an XBox.
