Flip side: In the Vangon/Westy market all that replacement does equate to increased value. People shell out for these things (at least they do in Western Canada). At $15k (CAD) it’s a little over-priced for a non-Westy. But, with the motor, shocks bumpers, rear-window being done... that definitely adds value in this…
That diesel wasn’t powerful enough for a Dasher(We had one for a year until it blew up), certainly not enough for a Vanagon. IIRC, the EPA on it was 29/29* leading CR to comment the engine was pretty much working full bore all the time.
Yeah, if he was going to to get a gowesty engine, he should have got the 2.7, I’m guessing with that, it could keep up with traffic and not get in everyone’s way.
I was in the Vanagon/Westy game for a bit so I know the values of these can be a bit on the side of ridiculousness. That being said, the initial ding against this one is that it’s not a Westy, Weekender or even a Syncro. Of course if it was a Syncro, $15K would be a bargain.
Yeah with all the stickers (on the bike rack too), the questionable smoked lenses, and rust, it’s just too much asking price.
ND.
This really clarifies a lot. Well done currently un-gray commenter.
Is this Total Recall where this driver’s air rights are now revoked? Come on Cohaagen
Do they ever measure these loads instead of trying to “eyeball it”? Bridge measurements could be off if the locals are just piling layer after layer of asphalt on the road beneath them, so that’s understandable.
where i’m from oversized loads like this one get the following:
It’s a troubling sign that my mental response to this was “I don’t think that guy’s very familiar with buttplugs.”
I've done rebar detailing for this kind of bridge. Pretty cookie cutter design.
Google bridge bearing pads. They are fascinating tech.
With some designs, the deck is left to sit without bolts (sometimes each end of the deck rests in a kind of cradle), making it more tolerant of vibration and thermal expansion &c.
Yeah, my Subaru Impreza is pretty much the same way. Drop the glovebox and thar she blows!
The US’ premier motorcycle brand, which is going through convulsions due to economic policies plus massive changes in its customer base and business strategy, is worthy of coverage.
Ford sold me with hybrid.
In this article: A lot of mediocre cars that are exactly correctly rated.
Some of these cars (Stinger, Accord, Aviator) have been praised by journalists and owners since day one, and yet they are “underrated”. How is something underrated when it is named best in class?
