And a movie that Brooks wound up remaking, Lubitsch’s To Be or Not To Be, although even there the humor wound up taking a darker tone as more and more of the truth about the Final Solution came out.

I’d like to see that myself, but at the same time I’m a bit worried about the effect of having the lead character of a TV series be a conspiracy theorist.
where are these superhero murder mysteries he’s talking about? We’d like to see more of those
Because that would be... not good? less than ideal? suboptimal? can’t find the word I’m searching for, sorry...
Because, as we all know, religious right/wing conservatives love Life of Brian except for that one song.
I’m speaking, if it’s not obvious, as someone viewing the Pythons from afar, through their public appearances and their writings; my impression of Jones is that he was a wonderful, thoughtful fellow, although occasionally prickly. It could well be that I’m wrong about the latter part, of course; at any rate, Palin,…
Sure, why not? The gratuitous Latin will seem forced and snobbish outside of (semi-)formal debates, which should help preserve its meaning.
I can’t remember where I saw this written, but when I first started getting into Python shows and movies about 20 years ago, someone said that Palin came off as the most decent member of the troupe, the one that they’d most want to spend time with. Nothing I’ve seen in the 20 years since has challenged that notion.
No judgment from me; I watched the entirety of Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night for reasons that I still can’t fully explain.
I’d quibble with the dismissal of the Holy Grail as a “magic cup” since it’s, after all, the focal Maguffin of its movie, but otherwise... yeah, this article is actually really close to how I feel about IJatCS: not a terrible movie, but a letdown in which “nuking the fridge” is pretty far down on its list of…
I’ll definitely keep an eye out for Hugo; it would be good to revisit it in 4k.
I should be so lucky.
I care so little about your non-caring comment that I’m going to reply to it!
I have to imagine Sony is wishing there was something they could do to encourage people to go see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse again.
Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that WBD signed a deal to use an “artificial intelligence” system to help with the greenlight process. THR writes, “The integrated online platform can assess the value of a star in any territory and how much a film is expected to make in theaters and on other ancillary…
I’ll admit that I sometimes feel tempted to make some poor-taste remarks about the fact that the company’s own CEO is one of the lost; I have to keep reminding myself that billionaires are humans too.
sigh
This change isn’t going to keep films produced by and for streaming services out of the competition, it’s just going to force them to play in a few more markets; if Netflix, Amazon, Apple, et al. want a film nominated, it won’t take too much more out of their budget to meet the requirements.
I’m pretty sure you could put Larson, Jackson, Law, and Mendolson on an episode of ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway?’ and wind up with something entertaining.
