The AV Club was just sold to Paste, which seems the likely reason for the comments to be wiped:

Just posting a quick reply as someone who enjoyed your comments in the crumbling remains of the AV Club. I ran across Nilus elsewhere and will let them know of the sale, even if it does seem unlikely that comments will be resurrected there.

Unrelated to anything Jalopnik, obviously, but you’ve probably noticed that comments have been nuked at the AV Club. It’s been sporadically amusing to rattle around the husk of a once-great site, and you were one of my favorite denizens there, but it looks like it’s finally, firmly past tense now. Best wishes to you,

most screen time focus on Geoffrey Rush rather than Depp

I use “tarnation” in conversation, though how ironic my use is would be up for interpretation. (Mostly I just prefer using flamboyant euphemisms to actual vulgarities.)

I won’t deny that Pfeiffer’s performance is superior, but my Catwoman has always been and will always be Julie Newmar.

When these hardcore anti-maskers have to get surgery, do they insist that their doctors and nurses also not wear masks? Do they insist on the medics not scrubbing up first, for fear of coddling their immune systems? Because it seems like that’s a logical consequence of their stated beliefs.

What is that, a Kraft-only grocery store?

I’m just waiting for the inevitable interview where someone asks David Dastmalchian about it, he shrugs it off with a typical “I don’t agree with that use but I won’t judge the entire film or the experience of making it because of it”, and every article on the AV Club thereafter semi-snarkily attempts to imply he’s a

I went over to Vulture to read more of the interview (worth the click and the time, IMHO), and found this gem buried among Apatow’s responses:

Odd.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

Well yeah, but where’s the fun in saying that the filmmakers are giving a good ol’ punk rock middle finger to a stuffy English writer from a century ago?

Pretty sure that’s a Kinja-wide problem with avatars just not displaying for anybody. Yet another sign of how little regard the owners place on community. Get the eyeballs in, preferably on a video clip or a 50-item slideshow, and move ‘em on to the next page.

I like Anthony Mackie as an actor, and Sam Wilson as a character, so I’m just hoping the movie does them both justice and is actually good. I’m perfectly fine with him as Captain America, but I also want them to tell a good story, preferably one that’s also meaningful.

I don’t think they’ve bothered to fix any of the problems that have cropped up with Kinja over the years, have they?

As someone who lives in the Bay Area, can you tell me: is Oakland really a town? I would think a place that hosted Major League Baseball for decades would qualify as a city...

Yeah, I’m worried my reaction would be “19 MPH? 19?? Why on earth would thOHSHI—”

full quadrant spectacle”? Marketing jargon is bad enough when it’s used correctly...

Dammit, now I want to go.
