I have a few mechanical close calls over the years, the vehicle that sticks with me the most is a certain 1987 F150. I did not buy this truck, my younger brother did. He found it on CL, showed it to me and I told him to stay away, he took our dad to look at it and bought it.

My 2012 focus doesn’t have one, I see the same impact as my 01 Focus when coasting in gear vs out if it. A lit of cars do have stop/start technology but I don’t think manuals usually do.

As an avid hypermiler in the mid 00s when gas hit $4 a gallon and I drove 1000 miles a week I can tell you that without a doubt it uses less gas to coast in no gear vs coasting in gear down hill. That alone with no other changes gives me about a 10% boost in overall fuel economy.
