Not to mention there’s more competition in some parts of the country.  After moving to Texas and seeing a Main Event- bowling, arcade, lazer tag, etc plus more palatable garbage food and better drinks for the parents, and other similar concepts I’m amazed CEC hasn’t tried to step their game up.

I’m not really that surprised.

We really like to blame the divine for not more completely restraining all of us. It’s like too many WANT what would amount to the most pervasive authoritarianism ever made.

For as long as there has been man, there has been a singular goal above all others.

Yeah, the game is an endless cycle of killing and becoming god.

Correct; I’m using the name of its English localization rather than 魔界塔士 Sa・Ga

At distribution events, Nintendo will let you capture God

Plus, by BotW the poor guy’s more akin to a natural phenomenon than anything. I don’t think he had any mind or will left.

In Final Fantasy Legend, you can dethrone the Creator.

I mean, does Calamity Ganon really count as a god though?

From Penny Arcade:

Same here. I also get annoyed when anyone refers to a Disney park as just ‘Disney’. They have names. Disneyland, Disney World, etc.

Kind of like the alternate ending to Get Out where he ends up in prison—I was just thinking about that the other day. In both cases, the correct decision was made. Jesus.

Brilliant analysis, this nails something I never could quite figure out (and needed to for a personal project, so thank you!!). Really driven home by embedding the Captain America video, too. Of all the Marvel movies, for me that’s the one that truly bears rewatching, for exactly the reasons you articulate.

FilmCriticHulk had a wonderful essay where he diagnosed the biggest problem with Hollywood screenplays today, as the fact that they assume empathy on the part of the audience. The assumption is that the screenwriters don’t need to give the audience a reason to care about the protagonist, because hey, if they didn’t

Agreed. I would have to sit and think about my Pixar Mt. Rushmore, but I at least know which movie goes into the Washington spot.

I’d also go so far as to say that opening montage alone got Giacchino his Original Score Oscar.

I consider this the perfect example of *not* “fridging” a character. Carl’s connection to his late wife and their thwarted dreams is necessary background for the plot of the movie - a lesser film would have *told* us about it, but Pixar instead opted to *show* the hell out of it and communicate a lifetime’s worth of

Pixar has made plenty of good movies since Up, but I still think Up is their magnum opus that they've yet to surpass.
