One of the things that this has crystallized about my own depression, something that I couldn't put words to, is the pure exhaustion of it all. I can imagine that this diagnosis would have been another weight thrown on the pile.
Isn't it terrible how if you've stuggled with depression, that detail just makes it crystal clear? I never really wondered what would make it not worth it anymore until I found out I'm facing some pretty serious surgery somewhat soon-ish and my mobility may be impaired if all doesn't go well. And then I knew I…
This is the perfect descriptor for this fucking week.
I thought the exact same thing when I read the statement.
This week is like a nesting doll of awful. You think you've reached the end of it and, oops, more awful.
Having dealt with depression my whole life, I've spent a lot of time wondering what sort of new problems in my life would finally just make it not worth it any more. I guess this might have been his version of that.
Ugh. My heart goes out to you. My dad died in 1985, when I was 12, and this year I sobbed like I was 12 again. I wish your husband back for you, too.
I'm very sorry. Also, you rule.
Apparently we're supposed to be glad the change finally happened and not analyze how it finally came to be.
[W]hy hold back on the name of the man responsible for all of this unrest? Stories of death threats while police are arresting people like French for "not listening" and reporters like the Washington Post's Wesley Lowery for having a camera in a McDonald's or firing tear gas into people's neighborhoods is not reason…
Hillary, thank you to you and your colleagues at Jezebel for posting updates on the situation in #Ferguson. There is no coverage in the UK media and so I've been relying on Jezebel, Groupthink and Gawker for information.
I'm still waiting for Kanye West to announce "Barack Obama doesn't like black people!"
seriously? What the fuck has happened to this country? Nothing about this on mainstream news, not a mention, and I'm in New York. As a minority I have lost all hope in this government.
Many of the major networks were not airing live coverage of anything. Add to that journalists who were actually trying to report on the scene were being rounded up, blocked from the town or just outright arrested.
Watching the live feeds, restraint could have been straight saying "good night, protesters!" and walking away. A hundred people standing in the street chanting (for the police storm troopers posted there) did not need to be tear gassed. Holy shit. This all could be ended by the cops seriously investigating the death…
These little boys keep on dying, unarmed and on their own
I'm so pissed at what's been happening, and just putting it out there, (since I saw an extremely racist comment on a blog post before it was deleted), telling African Americans, Latin Americans and Arab Americans to dress differently to "prevent harassment," and so no one "gets in trouble" is just like blaming…
From Wesley Lowery's account of his arrest. More info here:
