Just an incremental issue to shifting gears for me. For my commute (Falls Church to DC), it's not block by block changes from 4 to 2 to 4.

Check you maths. Winters in DC are useful for about 30 days a year (usually not in a row) max. All seasons are fine. I guess if you are running true summer tires, maybe.

Maybe. Haven't driven a Subaru. My Wranglers have been great in the snow (even Snowmageddon. even without winter tires). I attribute this to two things. 1) Real four wheel drive with four wheel low and 2) not being an idiot who thinks that thing #1 makes me invincible.

If BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and even Land Rover can build high-performace SUV, why couldn't Jeep do the same at a bargain price? The engine is ready...
