Before even paying attention properly to the lead picture I just thought “ooh, that looks a lot like Berlin” then I saw the plate, well duh!
Excellent COTD.

It looks good, it probably drives great... But with those miles, those modifications, those issues and that badge it’ll probably never be NP.
It’s what has happened in the UK after Brexit. A lot of people who were silent (and rightly so) in their racist/homophobic/anti-immigration views suddenly thought they had a green light as “everyone voted out, that means it’s ok!”. Suddenly there was openly racist taunts against anyone perceived as “other” and…
Tbh the South West can give a regular UK driver nightmares, aka my dad in his Mercedes, he came back with the palest complexion I’ve ever seen, “I had to reverse for half a mile!”.
I didn’t really have that much trouble in my old passat but then it was worth £400 and had £60 worth of iron girder paint; hedges never…
Dual action orbital sander, chew through the majority of the rattle can camo with one and see what’s underneath.
Technically it’s “Prep” and will take you an age (well, it felt like an age when I did it) but will leave you with a better idea of what the bodywork is really like (how much bondo?) and whether it’s worth…
True, we are blessed with longroofs which makes me immensely happy. I’m having to slum it in a Fiesta ST at the moment, nowhere near wagon-y enough for me.
I would but Kinja is killing any kind of reply with picture content at the moment, though I have seen the Jalop Shop a fair few times for some reason.
Still love mine to pieces, had it as a daily for 4 and a half years and only really spit out problems that were my fault (I couldn’t exactly afford preventative maintenance).
Currently off the road but awaiting a decent comeback, it’s been a great car and holds a very special place in my petrolheart.
I would NP this…
Damn, wishing this had been over this side of the pond.
I have one that used to be my daily until my lack of maintenance funding nearly killed it (Saved from death by a company FiST). Granted not a VR6 but still a Euro “GT” spec that is apparently all but non-existent here these days according to records online.
And…
I have one (non VR6) and haven’t had any, though mine wasn’t built in Mexico...
The only reason to have an iPhone finally presents itself, kudos for having your race car in there too.
Alas, I’m not a fan of things that are “slightly” overpriced and have fanatical if slightly douchey followers (Porsche or Apple?). I prefer much more reliable and cheap things, because I’m cheap and unreliable.
Only…
I used to love commuting on a bike but here in the UK it really did entirely depend on how good the weather report was.
That’s not to say I didn’t commute year-round, in fact, at one point my bike was my only transport for about 5 years. UK winters, not always that cold but wetter than an otter’s pocket, are miserable…
Yup, my weird ligaments mean I can’t heel toe, but I can toe heel... If it works it works right?
Damn, just hearing you list off what the after effects were is kinda worrying... I had similar issues after a motorcycle accident 13 years ago (aged 18). I’d hit the side of a car that was turning in front of me (car’s fault, “sorry I didn’t see you” etc). The bike impacted the car wheels first, as such I took “less”…
Had the pleasure of meeting him just the once on a trackday, still can’t quite believe he’s gone. Fortunately his legacy of raising money for the Air Ambulance is something truly brilliant.
From the era of the A6 allroad and the S4 V8 of doom? With 2 turbos to go wrong? Well, if that aint CP I don’t know what is!?
“spray down local children during the annual heat wave in Britain, where temperatures climb to 71 degrees and the sun briefly becomes visible for 19 minutes between rain showers.”
GODDAMNIT DOUG... Stop being so bloody spot on good sir...
It could be worse I guess. I’m not sure how exactly, but it could.
Absolutely love it...
Though there is a slight niggle in the rear diffuser styling area (the entire grey lip under the tail lights), looks a little bit like a rectal prolapse.
Other than that, I dig it.
That is ENTIRELY missing the point of this car.
And, without meaning to, you pretty much committed the cardinal cliche/sin of “but you could buy X for less”. Of course you could, I wouldn’t, but you could. If you start asking that question more often, every car that exists becomes irrelevant.
So instead, I ask you,…
All you have to do is put on a feigntly English accent and say “Shall we take the Bentley darling?” and you’ve already won at life.
