Also, weird future-fantasy Krypton with Jor-El riding insectoid dragons was pretty cool (if a bit too heavy on the sepia tone.)

Except, bizarrely, at the end, when they throw in a goofy scene just after he kills Zod, completely undermining the impact of the previous scene.

The Hobbit as a simple story about a hobbit who goes on an adventure? What madness is this?

I haven't read Ella Enchanted, but I thought the movie was quite fun for what it was, in a kiddie Princess Bride sort of way.

Basicslly, the Superman: Birthright movie that was promised in the trailers.

The Hobbit. It might even still work as a trilogy if you capped the movies at around two hours each and didn't have everything bouncing around like an amusement park ride.

Speaking of His Dark Materials and do-overs, I'm going to go outside the parameters of this thread and say I wish we could get a do-over for The Amber Spyglass. I loved the first two books, but that one was a mess.

I am so sorry for your losses, Annalee.

My rule of thumb is that if you can drop the preposition without losing any meaning do so. But if not, don't worry about it, because the solution is worse than the "problem."

Why all the hate for lefties, Steven?

Full of drunken anti-semitic ramblings?

To paraphrase Christopher Walker in Seven Psychopaths...

Don't apologize. The horse deserves it.

MAN OF STEEL

Solid point. But it's still possible to portray them as the bad guys without falling back on racist stereotypes.

Yeah, it's not that a movie depicts a real life historical conflict between Christians and Muslims that is the problem. It's HOW the sides are depicted that makes it racist or not. There's a reason 300 gets accused of being racist and xenophobic and Kingdom of Heaven does not.

Didn't Danerys already get one of those moments at the end of season 4? Not as final as Walter White's, but definitely a moment when she comes to realize she's not as great as she thinks.

I would much rather watch Super Fast Ship of Mission 5 years, Go! than Space Voyage.

Idunno, I'd say there's definitely something appropriately eldritch about the Disney empire.

I don't really mind Luke Evans as an actor, but he really needs to do a better job of choosing his roles. He's become a walking red flag that lets you know a movie's going to suck.
