I read this a few months ago, after reading this recommendation the first time io9 posted it. It was a good read, albeit a bit disjointed at times. I preferred the movie Stalker, but the book and movie are quite different and complement each other well.

Dammit, reality! Why must you always crush my dreams?

He'd be a great choice, but Star Wars would have to get in line behind Superman and James Bond if we're talking dream movies I'd like to see made by Brad Bird.

Cue the "Nathan Fillion as Has Solo" rumors...

Joe Johnston also has some classic Star Wars pedigree, what with designing Boba Fett and all...

Well The Incredibles does borrow heavily from classic Bond movies, but I doubt that particular detail was one of their sources of inspiration.

I feel you re: The Stand. But I think the "throw the book across the room" moment the article is talking about is due to the book challenging the reader and pushing you out of your comfort zone. Very different thing than throwing a book across the room because of bad writing.

A Superman comic that's honest about that depicts Ma and Pa Kent as racist? Now there's a deconstructionist comic just begging to be written.

The real question is, will Johnny Depp actually act in this? Or will he continue the trend of awful caricatures that he's done ever since he got nominated for an Oscar for Pirates of the Caribbean?

Something something Douglas Adams reference.

I'm willing to forgive bad science in science fiction if it provides an interesting premise that allows us to explore how characters would react in an extraordinary situation.

Yeah, that bothered me about the first movie, though getting to look at Jennifer Lawrence's curves certainly made it a bit easier to tolerate.

Well, flying cars would have a massive impact on our infrastructure and the environment.

We can only hope Darren Aronofsky's Noah is even half as awesome as these.

Now playing

Affleck has been awesome so far as a director. And his acting in the trailer looks fine for his role.

Yes, but "genre fiction" is often used as shorthand for movies that fall in the science fiction/fantasy/horror/superhero/weird crap genres. A terrible name for sure, but a lot easier than having to write "science fiction/fantasy/horror/superhero/weird crap" all the time.

Scenes from a movie that never was, eh? Does the library in the Dreaming include a video section?

I've always thought of Metropolis as Chicago too. I mean, how many scenes have you seen where Superman saves a runaway el train? Plus, the Sears Tower could totally double as Lex Luthor's garish tribute to himself.

Well he IS Superman...

Are you put off by the premise? Or the way it's being executed? Because the book it's based on is really good.
