This is a terrible take. The S550 (2015+) Mustang outsells the 86 twins ten to one. There is obviously a market for a 300+ HP RWD sports car. And given that we live in the Second Golden Age of Horsepower, the Toyoburu is b l o w i n g i t .
Disagree, the take rate on the manual-only Mustang GT PP (like my old silver one in the picture) was pretty high, and they sell as many of the manual-only GT350’s as they can make, generally with large dealer markups until recently. About 7k yearly. The market is there.
This comment is always dumb. I’ve bought two new Fords with manual transmissions in the past few years. There are a lot of us who read this site who are in the market for a car like the GT500 but won’t consider it if there’s no manual option. We aren’t mythical creatures.
Dear Aston Martin,
You’ll be happy to know that Sync 3 in my 2017 - with the latest 3.0 software no less - still randomly selects AM radio when I start the car.
Dear Jalopnik Writers:
My car (a 17 GT with the Performance Pack) came with the Pirellis and I dumped them for the Michelins. The Pirellis wear super fast, and aren’t very good when it’s wet or the temps are cooler. On a warm dry day, you’d struggle to tell the difference.

I disagree. One of the things I disliked about the outgoing JK was that the shifter reminded me of an old truck in a bad way. My Tacoma had much shorter throws from the factory in comparisons, and I had the dealer install the optional TRD short shifter which is very mild. That, coupled with Toyota’s superior pedal…
Uhh... what do you call the tires on the GT350R and the forthcoming GT Performance Pack Level 2? Last I checked, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 was a world-beating sticky tire.
No manual, no care. I’ll stick with my Taco, and probably replace it with another Taco.
No idea where that 420hp figure came from, read the linked article and they suggest 650hp for the 4.2L.
FWIW, my Mustang has matched my own tracking by miles+gallons pumped within 0.1MPG over the course of 4,000 miles.
He’s been wearing them in all of his interviews and TV appearances for a while now as well. I kind of assumed he was just getting more eccentric.
You don’t actually get to keep the five year powertrain warranty, but you do keep the three year bumper to bumper warranty. Still better than zero warranty.
They finally got rid of it with the 2016 refresh, but even my manual-equipped 2014 Tacoma has that style of parking brake. I disliked it at first, but it gives you more center console space. You pull straight out to set it, pull and turn to release it. It’s slick.
I feel like they’ve actually copied TGUSA in most respects. Instead of smart humor, it’s all low hanging fruit. They’re trying too hard and I didn’t laugh out loud once. I set my expectations low, but this was terrible.
Hi JF, why is /DRIVE+ still ripping off people every month? Any plans to refund people who have been (perhaps accidentally) paying for no content?
You mean the same /DRIVE people that have been charging people $4 a month for /DRIVE+ and haven’t put out any new content since November? Yeah, I’m pretty soured on them.
