Just, ‘co-pilot’ surely! Just as snappy, IMO.

Yes All the stars! All the shitty software & machines that plague our lives boil down this. I firmly agree that trying to automate the human parts of machine assisted tasks is absolutely the wrong approach.
Wow, this is bureaucratic! Over here, I get a letter or an email with a reference number, I go to the DVLA website, punch in the number and either pay for another year or click a button to say the car is off-road for a year.
This is the most exciting, boring video!
The whole thing has been dull as dishwater since the switch to cash-grab mode. Hard to imagine it’s the same site that brought us the Bugatti workshop, Bentley Blower guys the 250GT videos.
“Tyres n’tarmac!” As my instructor would shout if we got too close.
I hate the term ‘auto-pilot’. Its just asking for trouble. I’m amazed this hasn’t been investigated more times in the litigation friendly US. I get that it sounds cool and cool-pronouncements are Elon’s thing, but it would have been just as cool and a lot more intuitive to it’s capabilities to have called it co-pilot.
Lot of comments that it’s a bit bland, but that’s precisely what it should be - VW are the blanks from which Audi, Seat and Skoda stamp nicer & more interesting cars over time. That it’s bland is what will make it sell like all VWs conventional models.
Just landed here from the story bemoaning that Lexus didn’t blank-sheet this years IS and completely agree! It can just be mildly updated - If it’s still selling why would you tear it up unless you had a big advancement in underlying tech? With the average length of leases going up it makes no sense to be making…
Yep, I’m terrified to realise I would happily drive this!
I think it’s likely there’s going to be an element of the culture. Hot of the scandal of the diesel emissions, and with the launch of the Taycan going so well I can imagine a lot of pressure from the top for this to be ‘perfect’.
The cloud updates thing is weird, because established manufacturers like VW have massive dealerships who presumably would love to have the EV drivers booked in for services as often as the ICEs, even if it’s just updating software. There’s an expectation among normal people that cars go in for servicing - I doubt…
Very true, I worked for a couple of years training installers of home automation gear. It’s all made by traditional hardware companies and the software was universally garbage. I think it’s a clash of mind-sets, while both hardware and software are engineering disciplines, what makes a good electrical engineer does…
I’m constantly surprised by how rubbish car companies are at software. It’s difficult to do good software, but even with multi-billion development budgets the major car companies struggle to make even average software.
Am I imagining it or is that a re-bodied Merc CL500?
I opened the motorsports section of Apple News today and the words AUDI & CHEATING appear in 1st story listed and in 2 or 3 more on in the first 2 folds. Whatever your opinion of virtual racing, that’s gonna get you canned.
It’s bizarre, but I don’t think govt debt is ever intended to be paid off in the modern system. It’s just inflated away with adjustments to supply made by taxes & central bank rates etc. More than half of all money in existence has been “made” in the last 40 years.
I love the interior, it still manages to somehow still look futuristic!
Amen! It seems like every automotive you tube channel is the same tired pastiche of the loud, shallow format. It’s such a joy to find channels where knowledgeable people aren’t trying too hard all the time. My tea-breaks will be improved immeasurable with this one.
Most of the parking meters in the UK are solar/battery powered, but there’s serious power in the street lighting poles. You can already apply to your local council here to fit a charging point to the pole if you have a street light outside your house, but it’s such a new initiative it’s very difficult to get to done…
