I waffle back and forth about whether “gave proof to the night / that we still had our flag” or “and the rockets red glare / lots of bombs in the air” is my favorite part.

I had an acquaintance who, after his third DUI, was given a simple choice by the judge: Quit drinking or quit driving. He relinquished his license on the spot. Being self-aware counts for something, I guess.

Whenever I see a story like this I’m just so grateful I managed to quit driving. 

They’re a bunch of pearl-clutching dorks upset that Shane Gillis, who they thought they successfully cancelled, is now bigger and more successful than any of these failed writers or their favorite bland comedians.

No, the AV Club has its priorities straight. The most important topics in entertainment are: (1) Shane Gillis, (2) Bowen Yang, (3) end of list.

I’m not a big Gillis fan, but this is unfair to Sean. His questions were fine. I think you let your personal dislike of Gillis bias you too much here. 

Just guessing here, but I’d imagine a few days of the CEO’s pay + bonuses would easily fund the band for a full year.

The best Michael Bay movie is Con Air. But the best actual Michael Bay movie is Armageddon; for some reason that’s the only one where I buy the cornball sentiment and the tonal shifts don’t feel too jarring. The Rock is up there but Cage and Connery are doing a LOT of work

What about favourite sketch for the season?  I’d go with Nate Bargatze’s Washington

Lowkey Andrew Dismukes could have a case for it this season. He really excelled in various sketches, especially those where he starts off playing straight and things escalate to the absurd. At the very least, he’s grown into a well rounded sketch performer.
