Unfortunately, as we’ve seen in other industries, the tokenism argument never goes away. See: tech industry.

+1. If they want to establish this “from the beginning”, that’s literally now.
I haven’t tried weed in the aerogarden yet but I have nothing but good things to say about it in general.
Theoretically, a Supreme Court judge will never have to ask “can we afford...?” So that makes sense. Of course, I have no idea at what age most of them are confirmed, so maybe it’s totally beside the point.
You are extremely lucky to have grown up learning to cook, especially that young. A lot of adults have to teach themselves, painfully (eating a lot of sub-par food) and slowly. Often without guidance from someone who knows. You were given one of the most important stepping stones, one that a lot of people these days…
I’m into this approach. Also, I love that you solicit suggestions from the family. That makes it a lot more reasonable to say “next week, ask for the things you will actually eat! But now, toast.”
As a former picky eater, this “logic” makes me roll my eyes. Kids have different personalities. I used to sit in the dining room all night, with my plate in front of me. My parents would leave me, turn the lights off, tell me there was no more food, make it “my choice” (ha) to eat what was in front of me.
The privilege of these comments is insane. It’s like saying that opening a 401k and a Roth is common sense. It’s only “common sense” if you have, somewhere along the way, been taught about money and finances. For example, kids who grow up poor rarely learn about saving and investing money. Kids from wealthier families…
This is so important to the conversation.
Okay, I didn’t realize you were just making things up.
If you’re speaking from experience, you must be a thin dude. As a thin woman, people absolutely care what I eat. Servers, in-laws, literally strangers in the grocery store have approached me to ask what I eat/if I eat. It’s been that way since.. Idk, elementary school? Of course, it’s nothing close to the level of…
I know your comment is super hyperbole, but kids don’t just know how to cook or how to help. If your parents aren’t cooking and teaching kids, the kids probably aren’t learning. There’s no home ec or community resources for most people. It becomes generationally-compounded until someone has the time, effort and…
Not to mention that, at this point, most Americans aren’t cooking because they don’t really know how. We have lost so much cooking culture in just a few generations.
I’d recommend that you read the article before commenting. In your case, it would probably be great if your kids also learned that everyone doesn’t have as much money as they do. There are absolutely social expectations (and consequences) in situations like this. Poor parents shouldn’t have to choose between keeping…
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to see it as a “lack of gratefulness.” If you’re a family considering no gifts from other kids for birthday parties, you almost certainly do family gifts for birthdays, Christmas gifts, surprise gifts throughout the year. There are so many opportunities to teach your kids to be…
They really shouldn’t have tried to add in a racial commentary if they weren’t willing to go for it. Agreed that it was such an odd plot point and totally unnecessary as written.
Yeah IDK why we’re seeing press releases about “recent allegations.” I swear I’ve been reading about his bad behavior, more than gossip, for years now.
Seriously. I remember being horrified the first time I saw it. I totally hated it and hated the message.
I binged the first 3 eps of Corporate the other night on Comedy Central’s website. Having worked for a couple corporations, it is hilarious and spot on and depressing and the exaggerations are just right. It’s not a perfect show, but I’m excited to see more. Unfortunately, Comedy Central is not really trying to get…
I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop for Paige. She’s been surprisingly uncritical of her parents so far and what they’ve chosen to tell her. But we had so much set up of what an altruistic, genuinely good person she wants to be, and it’s definitely leading up to an explosion when she finally sees/hears something…
