I get that dailies and stuff are supposed to engage players and keep them playing longer, but if you’re continuing to play Fallout 76 because of dailies and weeklies then you are playing the wrong heckin game.

I don’t see how being a bad version of other games is going to make more money than being a good version of Fallout 76, especially when the content updates are free.
I wrote about it earlier this week, but it feels like Fallout 76 is trying too hard to be that forever-game where you log in to grind your dailies and get better loot. That’s not really any of the games strengths, and yet it keeps pushing for that goal.
Yeah, as much as I love the main theme and a few other standouts, Dragon Quest music has always been a bit...I’ll say directionless. I don’t remember any strong melodies or anything. It just kind of wanders saying “hey, this is music that fits the mood, I guess?”
To paraphrase Kotaku’s own Tim Rogers, sure the game is grindy *puts on sunglasses* if you don't know how to count cards.
The Super Smash Bros. series is pretty good at riding the casual/competitive line. The latest entries try to balance the game so each fighter is competitively viable and the competitive community has its own rules, but at it’s heart it’s still a party brawler that can be enjoyed by anybody.
You might be on to something, but I think it depends on what you mean by a community? If you mean groups that regularly play the game, I think that’s pretty common. Heck, you can still find people playing games like Battleborn and Left 4 Dead pretty easily. But I think it’s harder to find communities that are…
“The other user actually did buy it for 10,000 Caps,” Kaelynath told Kotaku. “Which definitely made my very disappointing patch day a bit better. He said that it was because he’s an ‘Art Collector’ and wanted to hang it on a display because it has a story. Which is a result I never could have expected.”
Depends, would you sell your old Pokemon TCG collection because they can't be used in regular competitive play?
I see blue and black.
Yeah I recently got the game and everyone I’ve run into is pretty chill and friendly like that! Part of the fun as a newbie is stumbling across somebody else and seeing how they’ve set up camps and what their deal is. Like one guy I found set up his own water purification factory and gave me a bunch of rad-free water.…
To be fair, I think the game is less a MMO-lite or Destiny-lite than it is a Survival-Sandbox-Lite.
It’d be more interesting if more exciting heroes were part of the meta. Aside from the occasional Roadhog or Hanzo pop-off, it’s hard to get excited for the likes of Mei, Reaper, and non-popped-off Hanzo when pro play doesn’t look much different than any other PotG you see in your pub matches.
No I’m not a cop, and no they weren’t mass shootings.
76 is probably the closest thing to a Dad Character, but I just don’t think the term fits too well with Overwatch. There’s not the same level of customization and all-around usefulness like it’s use in games like Destiny. Like, there’s OP characters, easy-to-use characters, and cheese strats, but the moment to moment…
I mean, I’ve experienced three shootings in my nearly 30-year life and zero heart attacks, but ok.
Kinda related but...like...every once in a while I get hit with this visceral exestential dread that you can buy a gun in the same store I buy my toothpaste and hot pockets. I’ve lived in this country for most of my life and I still occasionaly get freaked out that my local library has to specify both food and guns…
I’m trying to do a VERY similar thing with a character who is basically Reigen from Mob Psycho. He claims to be the strongest wizard in the world but he’s actually just a Rogue with everything thrown into Charisma. It’s just really hard to make a character who’s sole ability is bullshitting his way through every…
Handy! Thanks!
“Epic Game Store exclusives are fine” is the new “The Last Jedi is a good movie” when it comes to baiting out petulant nerds.
