I see how if you don't read much...

I don't know if you're kidding or not, but it's the latter version. She seems to be of latin heritage (I might be completely wrong, I don't know anything about her, I'm just an asshole who is assuming shit), and Grande is a latin name. Ironically, it means "big" in Spanish, which is hilarious, associated with her.

This is what I have to say to people who automatically post "ban schools from handling rape cases, go directly to the police" whenever this subject comes up:

Someone also pointed out in a discussion on Groupthink this morning that it's important that schools have their own mechanisms for dealing with campus sexual assault, since trials can take years. There needs to be a way to respond to and protect rape victims more quickly than that.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with the idea that it takes personal experience for a lot of people to develop a sense of empathy. But I think that's a moral failure—it's something we should address, not just accept.

Hmmm. I dunno - "women are people" seems pretty fucking basic to me. Right up there with "water is wet" and "fire will burn you."

Oh and has anyone else noticed that our "male allies" tend to spend more time mansplaining to women how to be Better Feminists than they do educating/smacking down other men? Ahem.

The title of his article alone is a warning that his article is bullshit. It's not that no one ever told you these things, but you willfully ignored topics about misogyny and women's rights.

Well, no. Overcoming one's ignorance about oppression and cultural conditioning (and learning about it and being conscious of it) isn't the same thing as actually breaking all of that conditioning and rooting out all those internalized biases.

Men don't care about women's issues/women until one of their orgasms contributes to the creation of a baby girl (and sometimes even that won't do the trick)

Also, the stats for black women are an "estimate based on about 10 or fewer case samples."

After reading this yesterday, I couldn't escape the feeling of how weird it was that I had never heard of her before. Maybe I just don't pay enough attention to tech CEOs (very possible) but she's so fascinating and successful, it's amazing to me that she's not more of a mainstream name. Truly phenomenal person.

Thank you for calling that out. My grandma was put in special education classes for much of her school years because English was her second language and she struggled with it. She was fucking brilliant and went on to be the first Latina lawyer in her city and a local politician.

Your team staying popular equals more money in the pockets of all other franchises and NFL brass.

She isn't saying that you should give up your team or loving your team. She's saying that you should recognize that supporting your team (and through them the NFL) while being disgusted at the way the NFL handled the situation makes you a hypocrite. She doesn't say "bad person". She says "hypocrite".

Okay, so the owner probably didn't know/care about the (ha ha, so funny) "rape room" nickname. But the fact his reaction when he was told was to brush it off and allow the whistleblower to be fired — and not to reprimand his friend about not making fucked-up jokes — speaks volumes.

Straight white American men view "rights" as a series of passes for them to do what they please to anyone else that isn't a straight white American man.

"It's meant to be unnerving, not leering"

If you broke in to someones house and you were arrested and brought to court. You are innocent until proven guilty. How it stands now is, if this was rape, you would claim the homeowner didn't tell you that you couldn't come in. The homeowner then has to prove that they did tell you that you couldn't come in.

Except if one if these guys actually followed through on their threats, it would play out the exact same way the Elliot Rodger situation did. Endless furious posts and articles about how misogyny has absolutely nothing to do with it, even though the killer specifically listed his hatred of women as his reason for
