Tell that to the miners that died in that non union mine in WV.

Wait, I thought unions were only around to steal money! Now you're telling me their only purpose is enforce safety regulations! My world is turned upside down!
Define worker's rights please.
"I bet you that there are other people making a very comparable wage who do not work for a Union in other parts of this country."
"I have a right to work on my terms"
He wants to work for Fiat-Chrysler, but not a Union. So why must a Union be forced and dues automatically stolen from his paycheck?
Fucking freeloader. The Union negotiates a favorable contract. You want to benefit from that contract? Pay your dues. You don't? Then work somewhere else. There are plenty of jobs at Walmart.
Companies force workers as terms of employment to associate with other entities either temporarily or permanently all the time. If you go for a factory job where you drive a towmotor, you have to be trained (almost always 3rd party) and licensed (by the state) to do so. If you work for a corporation where…
Since when does OSHA negotiate wages! Benefits etc?
Unions hate Free Markets. They always have and always will.
You are free to enter into your own contract with Chrysler. What's more free market than that? It turns out they would rather work with the union than with you. But no one is stopping them from doing that. It's very much free market driven. If Chrysler didn't want to work with the union, they don't have to.
boom, roasted. well said
No. Because you can always quit, or better yet, not apply for a job you specifically know will have these issues.
"right to work" is such a contradiction in terms. "Right to work" means that you signed a "contract" that gives your employer the right to fire you for any reason (save federally protected ones). How is that a right to work?
If OSHA regulations are so important, why do we have to follow them? Why don't they just let people do what they have to do? Why do they have to try to make things safer at a cost to the worker?
Unions are not compulsory, he doesn't have to join the union but he has to pay the dues because he is benefiting from the union being there. Without the union he wouldn't be making the decent wage that he is.
Because an individual company is not a free market in and of itself. As part of working at a company you have to abide by specific responsibilities within that company. One of them in this case is joining a union. Deal with it.
Apparently in Jodark's world, any time you are asked to do anything you don't like, it's mega-Atlas-Shrugged-oppression.
The Free Market, in which all businesses operate, says if you don't like where you work, you can go work somewhere else.
Hence, he can go work somewhere else.
He chooses not to, and work for a union.
He's more than welcome to go sling burgers at BK for 7.75 an hour with no real employee protections.
He chose a job…
You have a choice. Free Market says you can get a job somewhere else.
Enjoy.
