Here's the thing - torture isn't justified or deserved, either. Not even the vilest of monsters "deserves" to be tortured. Killed, if necessary, if it's the only way to prevent them from hurting others? Absolutely. But torture serves no purpose other than to fulfill a base animal instinct for vengeance.
