He also got blowback from people who insisted that he wasn’t truly representative of Black Americans, being an islander. Because there’ll always be something to complain about.

I’ll never forget Black Lightning’s Afro mask.

Captain America nor Stark as Iron Man have the same shortcomings as Pym.

Pelosi is not a good tactician, she stays in power by delivering for rich donors. She is not successful in delivering policies for voters — her position is based on how much money she raises. The loathsome Mitch McConnell is a much better tactician, who gets his most of policies through whether he is in the majority

They don’t care about the readers, what they want is an established property to sell off for large profits. They are selling brand names, not an editorial philosophy or a readership.

Even though both Reed Richards and Hank Pym were very condescending to their respective superheroine girlfriends, Hank in particular was incredibly verbally abusive to Janet. Reading those comics now, it’s like he’s berating and insulting her nonstop. I am assuming Stan Lee was going for comic- battle of the sexes - ba

Comic Books were always heavily influenced by mainstream entertainment of the time, so Marvel’s depictions of women were very much a reflection of those seen on tv and in movies of the ‘60s. The period was still very chauvinistic and sexist, but starting to give slight nods to female ability and independence. Not so

and female writers sometime...in the late 1980s/90s?

Why would a guy who made his fortune pimping fame hungry sociopaths to engage in human cockfights in reality tv have any regrets? Karma does not exist and this guy is a shitstain, sitting next to a trust fund baby who does not display an iota of self awareness anymore (if he ever did).

Slightly off topic but relevant to the subject of easy stereotypes, this video essay examines how Hollywood’s biases are revealed in the way they use Chinese languages.

I mean, I’m sure there are many good, scholarly works on the proliferation pimps, prostitutes and the numerous LGBTQ, youth and other minority caricatures that appeared in pop culture in the ‘70s and ‘80s (Asian stereotypes were notably horrible too). Pop culture is always entwined with actual history and who we are

Really. Black’s creative preoccupations and stylish tics don’t really fit with the big budget commercial films that studios make now. He’s still an interesting filmmaker to me, but the days when anything he touched turned to gold is long in the past. Maybe he’ll bounce back with Doc Savage, if that movie gets made.

The TERF Wizard Books are so ubiquitous in pop culture that it is plausible that someone who was never particularly into the franchise to not notice the messed up shit that’s in the books and played completely straight.

Olivier would win by pretending to settle it in the ring.

Cage has been saying this for years. He objected to Laurence Olivier’s description of actors as “great liars”, claiming that he doesn’t pretend but creates and channels.

That’s the name I’m going to use the next time I order a coffee at Starbucks.

My idealized vision of The Matrix Resurrections would have been a streaming series with Wachowski as a producer and Charles Brooker(Black Mirror) as the show runner. Despite all the indulgences and flaws in the trilogy and it’s sequel, the narrative scaffolding the Wachowski’s created is coherent and full of ideas

They should just admit that slash fiction is just the fan version of Penthouse Letters

I do 100% agree this would be a great 8+ episode streaming series. Its a shame WB didn’t open it up to a next generation of writers, directors, and actors and just go big a bit like how Star Wars does today with its shows.

I’m not inherently against ‘ships, whether they are planned or form organically. I also don’t think that fans are always wrong in their enthusiasm for a conceptual romance. But friendships are powerful, meaningful relationships too.
