Many prosecutors (and cops), don’t want anything to do with DV cases A) because they’re too much work, B) they don’t want their win record to be negatively affected, or C) they don’t believe (explicitly or implicity) that dv isn’t as serious, or is as much of a priority, as other crimes.

At least in the program I work for, because economic abuse is so pervasive, we don’t consider income at all if a victim wants representation to obtain a protective order. We only consider income when determining whether we can provide representation on other types of cases like custody, support, etc.

Oh come on now. As a gay man I’ll say I find this comment to be ridiculous. Guidelines as to who can receive legal services for domestic violence cases are gender neutral. The reality is that most victims are women.
