The US never banned horse-drawn buggies neither. They just went away on their own. Same with gasoline cars. At some point, gas stations will start to close and gasoline cars will not be tenable any more

I mean- the Jeep type vehicle was never really GM’s thing. GM has the Hummer franchise and I am guessing they will continue to milk that with maybe smaller Hummers, and Hummer trucks, etc.

It was a big failure on the part of the US government, not standardizing the charging plug and the interface software. It seems like the US government fell asleep after  establishing the OBDII standard- which in hindsight was and still is a wonderful thing.

Maybe at some point they will make it possible for one EV to recharge another EV like they do with certain phones.

Somebody PLEASE figure out a way to bring these into California. I seem to recall that cars with < 800cc engines are exempt from smog checks(?) in CA.

Oh God! They are coming for us!

What it gets right are the domestic manufacturing requirements.

Many people are rarely loading something up when parallel parked

The US military has kind of painted itself into a corner with these super expensive weaponry. They maybe the top dog in their respective categories, but in this war we are increasingly seeing the role played by inexpensive drones. It’s just a matter of time before our expensive weapons are swarmed by cheap drones.

Why don’t they just design these tanks to run on commonly available low sulfur diesel, and not have a separate military-only fuel?

Nothing worse than a swinging door that swings the wrong way, like the Lexus GX. You open the door and it blocks your way towards the curb.

I was gonna say- the EU’s EV range standard is plain screwy to begin with. So this is not a ‘PHEV’ problem per se.

That assumes the car in front of you is self-driving. What if the car in front of you is also driven by a meat driver? Or what if you are the first car  with noone else in front of you?

Point being right now people working in San Francisco or Manhattan take the train to get to work. If self driving cars happen, a number of these people might choose to self-drive to work.

Very true- the possibilities are there. Also, on the highway, they can form a drafting train and save a lot of electrons.

It is absolutely true that self-driving cars will encourage people to drive more. for example, right now a lot of people would not drive into downtown areas because of lack of parking. But with self driving cars, you can have the car drop you off downtown, and then drive off somewhere else to park. Rightnow you

I am seeing a fair number of Ioniq5's and EV6's. But of course, it’s been on sale for less than a year, so the annual numbers are probably still low.

It’s just a tiny bounce. Let’s not make too much of it.  Mostly likely used car prices will continue to drop as new car availability recovers.

Supposedly the Outback will have a hybrid version in the 2025 model year. But yeah they totally dropped the ball just like Mazda.
