You track you car? Around a track the size of VIR, tires can easily make the difference. I’d also like to know if these magazine’s put 93 Octane in the cars that recommend it like the BRZ.

I had a Focus ST that I tracked regularly. I tried not to over-drive the car, but ended up chunking my front tires over time with all the load that has to go through them.
They did say the BRZ was on a damp track on the low-grip Michelin Primacy tires. Put sticky tires on the Subaru on a dry track and I’m sure it would turn out differently.
It’s my second car and it just sat all the time. Too expensive. Also, parts and maintenance were also equally expensive, especially for track days. My commute to work one way was increased to 35 miles each way.

Just bought a BRZ brand new last week! Had a brand new Focus ST as well. Had a used 991.1, but absolutely love having a brand new car again. Once you have one, it’s tough to go back.
Just bought a brand new, manual BRZ Limited Performance Pack last week! Doing my part and proud of it. Nice little rig! This replaces a 991.1 manual, which replaced a Focus ST, which replaced a 370Z manual.
I always felt like when he sang the lyrics “zipper blues,” it sounded like “Subaru” to me.
Excellent comment, sir! You are totally right. Even after the FoST, I’m now getting a new BRZ because even the Focus was far too heavy to be out on the track. Even though my lap times won’t be good, I’m sure the car with the Brembos on it will be much happier on-track than most modern cars tipping the scales at like…
You guys should track your FWD cars. I did for years with a Focus ST and will not be going back. It’s a fantastic car, but when you’re talking a friction circle, it’s far from optimal. And your front tires get destroyed because of them doing ALL of the load.
LOL!!!
That was a good guess! That’s looking down into Canada Corner from up the hill. BTW, you’ll love the place. If I were you, I’d see if you could rent a golf cart. It’s a huge place.
Well-said, literacola!
Ha ha! Good one!
Absolutely!
I had a 95 SVX, new. It was a fantastic car for its day. The only problem was only having 4 ratios, it would struggle getting moving, but once up and revving, it was one of the sweetest 6-cylinder cars I’ve ever owned. The brakes were weak though, and weren’t even strong enough to lock up the wheels or kick in ABS at…
Came for this. Did not leave disappointed. Ha ha!
Ugh. I don’t have the energy.... or horsepower. Integrals. Look up that term.
I don’t know the actual transmission product flow, but I’m sure they could source something from Aisin. It seems like engineering your own transmission is becoming more and more rare, which is great since my past experience with cars has always had the transmission as the first thing to have problems.
