Emphasis on swift completion haha

Your assumption is correct; these hand-wringing headlines are profoundly stupid.

COTD contender--well done.

Time to update the motto:

Sounds like my initial reaction of “That number is absurd and meaningless” was more or less accurate.

it has to be. Because there is not a corporation in the universe that would spend 150K to sell a 50K car. And there is really no way that the electric motor and batteries cost “looks up number” 113K (regular f-150 is 42K base lightning is 55K)

That’s exactly what they are doing, and it’s extremely misleading.

I think they are basically taking all their EV related revenue minus EV spend and simply dividing it by the number of EVs sold. There is no real amortizing, depreciating, or any other sort of cost spreading major expenses like R&D, NRE, Capex, materials, labor, etc that are often substantial at during early phases of

Are they subtracting the total EV sales revenue and subtracting that from *all the R&D spending on EVs*?”

This is one of those moments where we, as a society, have a chance to make the sensible choice and standardize to a pleasant chord.  It’ll make the world a safer place for all of us, and it will probably integrate into society seamlessly.  And that’s just fine.

First Gear: This is a question for the Accountants in the audience. It seems damn near impossible to actually spend $100,000 more than the sale price on these vehicles to actually build them. No one on earth would greenlight something that ridiculous.  What weird accounting wizardry is going on to come up with that

An auto with a CEL that’ll “probably go away on it’s own?” Methinks the CEL is due to exhaust leaking into the cabin, because extensive huffing of fumes is the only way the seller could think that price is reasonable.

My reputation would be ruined too, if I pulled guns on innocent strangers just doing their jobs.

Slam dunk

My daily commute is usually on foot, so I don’t visit gas stations too often, but I am always surprised by how expensive diesel is here in NC. And most everywhere I go. And my car uses premium fuel.

When you described companies getting caught cheating after the “main” Dieselgate prosecutions as less “fragrant,” you really brought a smile to my face.

I grew up in Germany, and my parents had a trucking company. My dad taught me to drive a full sized commercial truck at 11 years old (with an unsynchronized transmission and no hydraulics on the clutch, so I had to stand up from the driver’s seat to get enough force to push the pedal when double-clutching to

When that X5 was new, diesels were still ramping up in popularity for highway cruisers with great fuel economy - but that was before Dieselgate. They’ve since fallen out of favor for hybrids, which are better for 95% of drivers and that last 5% is getting murdered at the fuel pump these days.

I’ll never understand the desire to have a diesel engine for its own sake. If you’re towing and need the torque, fine. But if not, you’re kind of just willfully choosing to pollute more.

There have always been tire options for the Enzo. Current options in the correct size even include the Pilot Sport AS4 and Continental DWS06 Plus for those who want to drive them in cold weather
