Huh, the candied fruit isn’t really used here?! It’s dried fruit and peel soaked in alcohol haha. Some people might add glace cherries, but they’re the only one that would be similar. I am definitely referring to the old fashioned, British fruit cakes :)

I loathe sweet potato, I’m afraid!

My partner dips it in espresso and eats it right away, like his Nonno.

You can’t get it store bought here, so yeah I’m always made my own! I prefer a more shortbread tart shell, which is very buttery, and definitely use evaporated milk, brown sugar, and enough spices to make myself happy (ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove and mace)

Is that more similar to boiled Christmas ‘pudding’?

I’m vegetarian, so the preserved fruit ones with buttery shortbread tart casing is for me!

My holiday addiction is fruit mince pies - I have to make myself resist when they appear on the shelves in September...

Grease a backing tray with oil or butter, and sprinkle it with sugar (preferably demerara but castor sugar is fine too!).

I’m Welsh! And my grandma used to make this all the time. I’m not a fan because fruit cake is still fruit cake - father in law likes the soaking in whisky part, I think, so tea might be a bit boring for him!

Every year my father in law asks me if I mind buying or making him a fruit cake for Christmas! His Italian family don’t do the boozy British style ones, and he loves them!

Pumpkin pie is probably the one dessert exported from the US that I actually really like?!?! I have it with just a tiny bit of cream, it’s lovely.

Even accepting that, there’s the whole, slavery is good! aspect that is just urgh and unbearable to read.

Early November 2017, and the results of the marriage equality vote in Australia. We’d been working and advocating hard for the YES! vote, and had been inspired by Ireland’s efforts and tremendous response, but still didn’t have a good idea what the final result would be. The voting itself was anticlimactic - I took a

Vegemite is, I would argue, a strong flavour than Marmite which leads people to be more inclined to be horrified by it.

It’s not remotely the case that everyone thinks she should be simply free of the conservatorship - it seems clear that her father shouldn’t be in charge of it, however, as per Ms Spears’ own request.

YES! The interactions between the women are so good and realistic, and clearly through a female lens?!

Lord bless the ANAO, honestly.

Yeah, I agree - they don’t actually think they’ll win this election, but they can create four years of chaos and anger and resentment and plan for it to turn into obstruction and eventual reclaiming of power.

Yeah it was a very weak response, and very disappointing. So much on the day is just argued between party observers and candidate’s employees/volunteers, its so frustrating... (And this in the context of our elections being incredibly well run and free of influence!)

I thought that was pretty shocking - the signs were deliberately misleading, it seems obvious. I haven’t read into it too much, but I do wonder if perhaps they found no misconduct under a kind of understanding that it also won’t happen again... But yeah, it was definitely a disappointing approach to enforcement.
