Well it looks like Forge, their primary mutant inventor, has been busy working on a “city of the future” concept, while Orchis’ people have been working on “kill all the mutants” technology. Basically, the mutants lost because they’re not total assholes who devote 100% of their resources toward hurting others.

I think that’s going a bit too far. Maybe I’m just naive, but I doubt Marvel writers are pro-genocide or against minorities being allowrd to thrive.

Building on that, I’m going to go back and write it, but unless he winds up being a gigantic monster, I’ll always — ALWAYS — root for this guy because during the pandemic and lockdown, he created an email address where he had parents email him so he could create reassuring voice notes for kids who might be struggling

“Maybe Rose could come along on the adven—”

You have to be human to write that.”
But do studio heads care about that? That’s literally why people are striking right now. (as the article brings up). Cameron is just able to take this stance because he is in a position where the rich people won’t immediately try to replace him, but most others they definitely want

Turns out it's kind of difficult to produce a satisfying conclusion while simultaneously attempting to systematically dismantle the previous movie. And also you're J.J. Abrams and literally have no idea how to end anything.

The Last Jedi is the cool guy at the party who is really stylishly dressed and looks like he has shit together. Then you talk to him and you realized that he is a pompous dipshit with a college freshman’s understanding of dramatic structure and tension.

It was really impressive in a strange sort of way how JJ Abrams gave Finn such an impressive start and then proceeded to fuck it up so spectacularly almost straight afterwards (kind of like how Star Trek 09 had such a good start before increasingly going off the rails in his hands as well).

The Last Jedi is a poor man’s Battlestar Galactica crossed with a poor man’s Lord of War.

lol. I mean, sure. I can see how for him TLJ didn’t give him much to do. But The Rise of Skywalker actually provoked a genuine emotional reaction in me. Where I just left TLJ cold and indifferent, I was actually insulted by how stupid J.J. Abrams thought his audiences were. It is an incoherent story that tries to tie

One of the greatest joys of the last few years of pop culture has been the end result of Nolan moving Oppenheimer to Universal out of spite for Warner brothers, and Warner brothers scheduling Barbie on the same day as Oppenheimer out of spite for Nolan, has resulted in TWO radically different, but exciting movies by

A not insignificant problem of our capitalist system as it stands is failing to price in externalities. Capital has for many years pushed the external costs of choices to the people/government. This short term profit loop would be much different if the government forced capital interests to clean up their messes every

Grim indeed. I view the role of government as one that is meant to correct imbalances and negative externalities, while making critical investments to ensure the long term prosperity, not just survival, of a nation (which is not a system but a people). Wealth and power have always been closely intertwined; and we find

Unfortunately the largest quantities of stocks are held by a small number of individuals or firms. Their goal is to extract as much value and wealth in as short a period of time as possible. That leads to the dominance of short term thinking, at the expense of long term stability.

Yes that does mean that Microsoft itself increases its share. I don’t see how that’s a win when it merely means that the largest companies in the sector have increased its size and leverage; that’s bad for consumers. Having 3 or 4 large companies dominate the lion’s share of a market is not good for consumers. It

I’ve been truly surprised by how terrible bad air feels.

How much of scifi is just sci after certain technological advances are made? The AI in the movie is not particularly realistic (sentient AI is still magic and not scifi for me), but an AI being developed as a weapon doesn’t sound like it would necessarily still be fiction in ten years or so. I certainly find it more

The Blues Brothers and Aliens for me.

Its almost like people get used to writing on certain subjects and come across more material as the research a subject.

Sadly, it’s very needed.
