To be fair with your last example, Wally had been The Flash for a while in the comics by the time The Flash TV show came out. And in that era death lasted longer and the comics weren’t tied in to other media. (And also Wally was a better character than Barry anyway)

If he was still on terrestrial radio - and that industry remained robust - he might still have a wider cross-section of fans. As it is, he’s doing three mornings a week for a subscription internet/satellite radio service. His slide into obscurity was all but guaranteed when he left the open airwaves.
