@choxanyi: totally agreed. well put.

"And yet: Smoking still holds a certain sex appeal."

i have white-blonde body hair, which is Good, i guess, but it's started showing up en masse lately, especially around my nipples. i don't really mind or care, but i keep thinking of a distant ex who said he dumped a girl when he saw the hair around her nipples. "she was italian or some shit. it freaked me out." i

@em.: yay, i heart maddy/bastian—just hung out together last week in seattle! hoping to meet up for the portland 'zine symposium on the 28th and finally get my own copy of ladybeard.

blond is masculine; blonde is feminine.

@pleppy: yeah, i know, people are bigger than they were, and he was also feeling defensive of his collection. he was pretty snippity though—he was definitely mad at hormones, and possibly mad at the people who are bigger because of them.

@snark_shark: totally. i was going to post something like this, but you said far more eloquently than i could have. well done!

@Pigasus: yeah, i'm 5'11"! lord, that's a whole 'nother flavor of girl-on-girl haterade.

i've been taking all my work lunches at happy hours lately. there's a high-end, award-winning steakhouse in my office 'hood that has a happy hour from one o'clock to six, and everything's half-price. it's the exact same food, man. i will never, ever eat there during non-happy hour. more like sad hour, knumsayin'.

@saintbernadette: tell it, my friend. anything but straight-up kraft is untenable.

@LeRollingStoner: well, an 8 looks different on girls of different stature. i'm 5'11", and i was telling my friend that my goal was a size 8, and she was like, "wow, mine is a size 2, maybe 0," and that seemed insane to me. but dur, she's 5'3". my goal weight of 160 would be, um, different on her as well.

@pinkcrickets: heh, i didn't even catch that. i feel you.

@pinkcrickets: i promise promise promise that i mean this as a compliment and not as a pedantic correction:

i think i take exception more to the placement of the tattoo. did she get it in prison?

@ShadyLane: i'm in seattle too and yeah, that's been my experience as well. (although lately i've been cutting my own hair, but my memories corroborate your story.)

so the cyclists-turned-podium girls are kind of like scabs? in a way?
