Explanation of motivation is not the same as excusing the action. You’re right, commenters are just looking to take someone down here. She was pandering. It was stupid on her part given her employment, however, her motivation was probably not to be racist, but to say what her audience wants to hear.

Yeah not sure the barstool subreddit is anything close to “the worst thing on the internet.” In fact I find it to be relatively benign. The comment section, on the other hand, is a cesspool.
