(1) Understand the difference between confidentiality and privilege. TV and movie writers, take note. Confidentiality is an attorney’s professional duty not to reveal things you told them. If they violate it, they could face disciplinary action from the bar association, including losing their license to practice law.

I would recommend a spreadsheet like those in Google Docs, so that multiple people can edit it at once, and therefore keeping the family organized isn’t an activity that falls on only one person.

As someone who lived in Seattle before and after Amazon ruined it, I would add a couple of bad things to the list.

Sometimes, rather than try to change their mind, I just aim for giving them an unpleasant consequence for saying something racist/sexist/etc. Being called out in an unpleasant and unyielding way can accomplish that. The idea is to make them think twice before they share such thoughts again. Not sharing such thoughts

I sat on a heating pad on low heat on my chair. Only because us ladies couldn’t convince anyone to turn up the heat. A colleague who was also cold wouldn’t do that because she was afraid people would assume she had a medical issue with her butt.

Thanks. That makes sense.

or wealthy white ladies donning the right shade of resistance red and getting massages from impoverished immigrant women in the name of self-care.

Yes and no. I would check with your local preschool/K-12 school systems to find out what they expect kids to know on day one of pre-school or kindergarten. They have a list they hand out to parents. These days, they typically expect more than we were expected to know. My niece was expected to sight read 100 (short)

I would add that when a marriage is stressed, people with discretionary income can afford marriage counseling (not typically covered by insurance), individual counseling (comes with copay that can add up to $100 or more/month/person), and what not. Those things can save a marriage. People who don’t have discretionary

I usually just start with, “yes, yes yes yes” said sincerely and compassionately, often with hugs. It opens them right up to feeling it is okay to cry and even talking about it, if they can. That speeds up a resolution to the crying or just a release of whatever they were crying about so they can be ready to move onto

You argue that it is a common misconception that grain-free means higher protein. It is true that the two aren’t synonyms, but they are both part of a diet trend for humans and dogs and often coincide.

OOFSake’s vet doesn’t sound misinformed. It sounds like you don’t understand what macronutrients are ... or what grains are (oats and rice are grains, too).

Thank you! I have been trying to figure out where the line is between cultural appropriation and being influenced by a culture. And my worry is that, taken too far, a fear of cultural appropriation could lead to cultural segregation, which seems objectively awful as it would lead to more hate and less understanding.

The worst thing I have seen during a panel interview is a male candidate who only talked to the one man on the panel, even if a woman on the panel asked the question. The one man on the panel was awesome, so once he noticed this problem, he refused to look at the candidate, looking only at the other women on the

Hmmm. I run in the forest in a tick-infested part of the country with my pooch 6 days a week and it is hot and humid as heck half of the year. I don’t really want to use DEET 6 days a week. The commercially treated clothes are mostly hiking clothes, not running clothes, and totally unsuitable when running a few miles

I do this, too, in an excel spreadsheet, but it is integrated with the itinerary. As I plan the trip, I fill it out. Where are we flying in and out of? I list each day we are there, each activity that day in order and target timing, what to wear, if I need any gear (scuba gear or beach towel and sunscreen), where we

I would just add that it is super important to keep your wheels oriented forward while you wait to turn. I see drivers turning their wheels in anticipation of the turn, but that is dangerous. If you get rear ended and your wheels are turned, you are thrown into oncoming traffic going full speed. If you keep your

Austen typically portrays handsome and charming men as untrustworthy. I would assume that Willoughby and Frank Churchill would have looked like this and Darcy would look handsome in a different, less fashionable way. And I would never imagine that Jane herself had crushes on the pinups of the 1790s.

After a couple of days of “debates” and my sister-in-law trying to handle things diplomatically, my brother finally just ended the conversation by saying, “She can hug or not hug whoever she damn well pleases.”

Just have it cost 77% of what other cars cost so women can afford it.
