No hardware requirements, the trick is good old-fashioned hard work: the 3D engine was basically re-implemented in hand-written GBA assembly. Looks like it took them several months. But even in 2022, with all our fancy optimizing compilers, assembly written by a human expert dramatically outperforms compiled C/C++.

Nope. It runs fine on my GBA Everdrive. Well not on my SP. That crashes for some reason but my original GBA is fine with it.
