Right? “I am ridiculous and I know it” is the whole point.. Rather similar to “first-world problems.”

And can I just add that’s is annoying when someone starts a story about how their generation or their parents’ generation did things so much better and subsequent generations will never know what hard work really is. Also, and I know this is shocking, but a lot of people still have kids at a really young age and have

I wanted to hope that whoever wrote this was being tongue-in-cheek here but it really reads that they are not, and are in fact serious as hell. And if a site designed to help adults waste time can’t show humor at the idea of adults laughing at acting like adults, then it’s time to close up shop, because really wtf.

Right? I think the only time I’ve ever said I was adulting was when I was drinking Ciroc out of a flask before going into a bar.

Probably because he/she was expecting it to be criticizing something that was not obviously just a joke. They are not alone (I also came here expecting the author to show more than an inability to grasp the concept of self-deprecation)

Yeah, at least in my circle of friends, no one is actually giving themselves accolades for doing this, but rather ironically acknowledging that we should have done it before/earlier/faster/more frequently.

bingo. it’s a way to poke fun at yourself, not actually self-congratulatory. it’s like ironic use of “yolo.” ex: “invested more money in my 401k today! #yolo #adulting.” it makes the everyday mundane business of being a responsible adult slightly more entertaining.

Exactly! I use it to basically mean “Holy crap I did the thing that everyone else does so easily but it took me ages to accomplish and I’m so proud even though I know it’s stupid and I’m bad at being an adult, but fuck it I did this one thing right so yay!”

Same. It’s a bit of sarcasm

As someone who is sort of 25 going on 12, I kind of read “adulting” as pointing to the dissonance between what we thought “adult” meant as kids, and what it ends up meaning once you get there....

Like in a lot of cases “adult” is a performance just like anything else. I have to attend a conference for my work this

Yeah, “adulting” isn’t meant to be self-congratulatory. (Or at least I’ve never seen an instance where it was?) It’s meant to be self-deprecating.

Right? Like goddamn Madeleine, maybe sit a few plays out.

This is a pointless article.

Hey, my vault-dweller won’t level herself.

I don’t know, I feel like when people use “adulting” they’re acknowledging the fact that they’re incompetent adults and they’re doing the bare minimum. I always see it as making fun of themselves (myself included), not thinking they actually deserve a prize.

I’M A GROWN UP AND I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT #ADULTING

Why bother? You’re just going to be playing Fallout 4 again today on your parent’s couch.
