Thank you, Beth! This is really helpful for those of us without cars who are stuck in the city. (There are a few parks but these days they’re somewhat crowded ;)
Those of us with small kitchens are probably doing this already. We just don’t have the space to leave stuff out while prepping food.
Strange choice of photo, as Japan doesn’t allow its citizens to have dual citizenship.
So what do you do if you don’t doomscroll, but you’re living with someone who does - and reads aloud all the bad news while you’re trying to eat breakfast?
On the plus side, that is a very amiable-looking two-headed cow!
Your approach sounds good, and in fact I just got back from a walk! I do agree that walks are important for both physical and mental health.
I’m glad that you have that freedom, honestly :) I was chatting today with a friend who has a place out in the country where he and his partner grow most of their own food. No close neighbours, tons of fresh air, 100% safe woodland trails on their doorstep; definitely the thing to have these days! I was teasing him…
I live on the top floor of a 4-storey apartment building. There is no private entrance in my home. If I want to exit the building, I have to negotiate a series of common spaces (hallways, stairways, elevator, lobby) that are (1) very limited in volume, and (2) never ventilated as far as I can see.
I was an only child, and my mother was the photographer of the family, probably because it was important to her to have photos of me and my dad. As a result, almost all my childhood photos are of me alone, or me with my father.
Well, this is true. Our ability to affect things as “consumers” is very limited under capitalism, unless we are organized in large numbers (and even then it’s doubtful). But that isn’t to say there are no businesses that are as ethically run as possible.
Yes, I don’t understand the objection. I’m also in Canada (British Columbia) and we get local and regional produce throughout much of the year, as well as a visible increase in produce coming up from Washington state, which has a similar climate. I’ve been buying local/regional (when I can) for years now, and if it’s…
I’m grateful to you for suggesting solutions that are equally applicable to apartments and houses! I’m lucky to live in an L-shaped apartment with a tiny bit of cross-ventilation. We have no air conditioning (it is rarely found in my land), so I rely on these strategies:
Food is often the gift of choice in Japan, basically for these reasons.
If someone is willing to buy me a shelf’s worth of Nutella, my default response is always gonna be “Marry me.”
“BST” is British Summer Time, but “EST” is “Eastern Standard Time”. The east coast is currently on Eastern Daylight Time, isn’t it?
I think you meant to say:
I think that people need to be reminded that masks are not about stopping you from getting the virus, they are about stopping you from spreading it.
Was just about to say this.
I live in an apartment building, and every time we try to grow herbs on our balcony, half of them are devoured by aphids. I think they must either float up on the breeze or climb up (we’ve tried soaking pots in a bleach solution after they’re emptied for winter; didn’t help).
I remember buying a very nice luggage tag that said “Not your luggage” in large friendly letters...
