I live on the fourth floor of an apartment building. To exit the apartment, we must negotiate a number of common areas, including 2 hallways, a stairway or elevator, and a lobby. There is no ventilation in the building to speak of. I know there’s nothing we can do about this, but I am perpetually worried aboutaerosols

I try very hard not to adjust my face mask when I’m wearing it, but - I wear glasses, and sooner or later the mask moves and my glasses steam up to the point where I can’t see anything. I’ve tried advance-adjusting the mask so that it won’t do this, but this happens again and again. I have the choice to keep taking

Good advice. I think the reason so many of us feel overwhelmed is because we’re facing losses at every conceivable level, from the existential to the trivial. One or the other might be easier to bear, but enduring a full spectrum (or even selected chunks of it) is really hard. I think it’s making us all emotionally

OMG that all sounds amazing.

I was wondering about this! I have a very old model N95 mask that was issued to me as part of a small under-the-desk emergency earthquake kit back when I worked in government under a forward-thinking manager. She left, and our new manager (who did not want the trouble of maintaining inventory or buying new ones for

I agree! When our local groceries ran out of pasta, I nabbed a spaghetti squash and used that as a pasta base. I’d forgotten how tasty (and easy, and nutritious) it is... so now, even though pasta has reappeared, I’m still buying spaghetti squashes. Bonus: it doesn’t need refrigeration!*

*Well, at least not until after

Unfortunately I busted my right wrist a while back and it’s still pretty damaged. A lot of these moves require resting body weight on the wrists. If I do that, the pain will just get worse :(

Still praying for iOS to come up with a one-tap solution for adding new words to the dictionary — be they “unusual” personal names, frequently used non-English words such as tataki, or regional wonders like skookum.

Came here to say this. I know a lot of Americans may never have seen an egg cup, but they are standard equipment for most British and Commonwealth kitchens. When I grew up we didn’t call the sticks of cut buttered toast “soldiers”, but by golly it was a breakfast staple, especially - although not exclusively - for the

This is all good advice! And in general, I’m fairly optimistic. I know we’re in this situation for the indefinite future, never having believed any other forecast was realistic.

A YouTube viewer of the video commented, “I have had a reply from a medical professional who has used this technique. She says, ‘We used to place a pillow just under armpits, above the abdomen so the chest can move.’

Still, it’d be nice to hear this confirmed by this doctor! It really isn’t clear what he had in mind,

Yesss! Crusted gunk on ketchup and mustard containers is just plain unnecessary, and there’s no feeling like removing it and getting back to the beauty of the unblemished condiment :)

Now playing

Dr John Campbell of the UK - who produces wonderful daily global updates on the COVID-19 situation - did a video specifically on immune function back on March 18. He says basically that you can’t boost your immune system beyond 100% (which I think you’re saying too). That said, there are always things you can do to

I live in an apartment building. To go out for groceries or exercise, I must negotiate several communal spaces (hallways, lobby, stairway/elevator, laundry room) with no ventilation. Even if the spaces are free of other people, I am worried about inhaling aerosols from others who may have passed through. How much

So if our city has run out of sanitizing wipes, and so have we...?

Can anyone please confirm whether the app content is geoblocked? Because the web content certainly is (and HBO/Crave in Canada is definitely not offering any freebies right now).

I’m rewatching a lot of really old stuff. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Northern Exposure. Community. 1995 Pride and Prejudice. What they have in common: all of them are well-crafted, witty ensemble shows with complex characters that you grow to love, even the “difficult” ones.*

I had a cold in late Feb/early March that left me with little appetite (couldn’t taste much). For once, I didn’t have a craving for sugar! I decided then to try out a low-carb, kinda-keto diet. Once I’d recovered from the cold, I was on this diet long enough that I still didn’t crave sugary things or the usual snacky

Thank you for this. It’s not just helpful for apartment-dwellers wanting to limit visits to communal laundry rooms, though! In the event we need to self-quarantine due to COVID-19 symptoms, we will be obliged to handwash our things (or let them get dirty for the duration) given that the building’s laundry room will be
