The idea of Cliff Booth ending up as an unknown movie critic is not so out there, given his depiction as a film buff in the novelization.

You had me at “references to [...] Saul Bass”

Is your screen name short for Dumb to the GoddamI’mDumb?

yeah, it’s definitely going to inspire opinions, but it’s a good list, imo. my only beef is a lack of rap—”rock box,” “jam on it” and either “friends” or “the freaks come out at night” would be good choices. and kudos for “going down to liverpool.” the original is even better—one of those songs that’s even better than

Hey, being a cooler is better employment than most philosophy graduates get!

Mike Nelson has called the original Road House the perfect intentionally so bad its good movie. Its clear no one making it was taking it seriously and everyone was having a blast. It shows on screen. Its not high art but as far as low art goes there is nothing better

Raising Arizona is my favorite movie. The Coens came out swinging with Blood Simple and then made something both perfect and completely different. If there was anyone you knew were going to go on to greatness after two movies, it was those guys. As for poignancy, show me a comedy with a more emotionally impactful

I will grant you that Alan Richson carries off the physicality much better than Cruise did, but in every case when the story gets to the third act it just stops making sense. I’m a sucker for characters getting to the truth through careful observation, especially when malevolent forces make a concerted effort to

I’m with you.  I’ve never had nostalgia like 1950s nostalgia.  Jesus, does anyone?

This is very cool .... looking forward to more. Great to see Blazing Saddles on the list.1974 isn’t complete without it. Parents unknowingly took me to see it in theatre when I was 9; we all loved it though.

Its better than I thought it’d be. Still lots of dumb humor, but some smarter jokes about ancient Greek gods and early human society than I was expecting. Also a far more entertaining family dynamic than other shows like it. I thought it was just going to be solid low-brow stuff all the way through. The voice cast is

Obvious omissions: King Crimson’s Red, Blue Oyster Cult’s Secret Treaties, Hawkwind’s Hall of the Mountain Grill, Camel’s Mirage.

I kind of like Krapopolis because nothing with Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade could be less than stellar.

Came here to note the parallel with No Country for Old Men, so I was glad you’d already made it — a killer, long after the violence is seemingly over, returns to kill a woman because of a warped code that commits him to doing the things he’s said he’ll do. And Carla Jean did basically make the same argument Dot made,

Acting, my dear boy, acting!

He’s easily my favorite part of that movie.

The Last Boy Scout started off with the greatest opening of a football game ever and ended at a Football game as well!
