Electrical engineer by education. Former software developer, former systems analyst/designer, and current IT project manager. I think that makes me relatively qualified to have an opinion on the subject.

I also love the oft repeated narrative on the left that tax cuts benefit the rich most. OF COURSE THEY DO! The wealthiest Americans pay a hugely disproportionate share of the taxes! You can’t give a tax break to the nearly half of the country that pays no federal taxes.
Holy shit, when did Lifehacker become the conservative common sense blog. I love it!
I like the cut of your jib.
Reagan’s words are as true now as when he said them: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are I’m from the government, and I’m here to help”.
“And for their first pick in the second round, the Browns take De’Skilin Cheele”.
The idea of “big tent” conservatism. The idea that we’re all Trump-clone, environment hating, bible thumping bigots is phony.
You sound like a thoughtful and realistic environmentalist. If you’re not already under the roof, let me welcome you to join the conservative side of the spectrum.
Sooooo many great comments. A few from the Milwaukee area (some are probably repeats from other commentors, but bear repeating):
A whole month for someone to take up the call. Which I appreciate.
You’re such a Hamm’s. Here this guy is living the High Life as Milwaukee’s Best player in years, and you make Lite of him. This dude is hard Coors. I’ll bet he hits 64 homers against the Redd’s before the season is over. He was an awesome, Genuine Draft pick from the Korean league. Also, Keystone Light.
You strike me as being a lot like William H. Macy’s character in Boogie Nights.
Awesome and heartwarming tale. That is all.
True. I like the idea that the flat rate kicks in gradually at a specific threshold (I realize it’s not truly flat, but the idea is that same).
I had steak tartar for dinner tonight, but I would not consider eating raw bacon. Aside from the whole tapeworm thing, the texture just isn’t appealing. Now, the slightly undercooked fatty ends of a piece of bacon on the other hand...
Who said theft? I support taxation for the common benefit (roads, schools, defense), but the money is indeed confiscated.
Subsidize? The government is confiscating money in the form of taxes under threat of fine or worse.
There’s a good argument to be made that exempting investment income from taxes encourages people to save. Which I am 100% supportive of. It also sucks that you’re required to pay taxes on dividends that are reinvested.
No insight to add. Just wanted to say: Jesus, that sounds awesome.
Do your parents ever tell you of a twin that was lost at the hospital and never found? Cause it’s me.
